Color code
A combination of color signatures in a set order, which is recognizable by a vision system.
Short circuit
A branch in a circuit with zero or very low resistance
Metal film resistor
A resistor that consists of a metal film of a selected metal alloy or carbon deposited in a vacuum on a small ceramic cylinder to which leads are attached.
Variable resistor
A resistor whose resistance can be changed.
Voltage divider
A series circuit that is used to produce a voltage source of desired magnitude from a higher-voltage battery; often is used with sensors such as photoresistors.
Potentiometer
A switch that can provide variable motion control. It can vary the resistance within the switch, which affects both the current and voltage flowing out of the switch.
Wire-wound resistors
Fixed resistors that are made by winding a piece of resistive wire around a ceramic core. Generally used when a high-power rating is needed.
Carbon film resistor
Resistor that is made by coating a ceramic rod with a film of carbon instead of metal.
Composition carbon resistor
Resistors made from a compound of carbon graphite and a resin bonding material. The proportions determine the value of resistance. Inexpensive.
Tolerance
acceptance
Fixed resistors
have a resistance that cannot be changed
Pot
to have power
Rheostat
variable resistor
