ACTION: Analgesic, antipyretic, platelet inhibitor, anti-inflammatory ROUTE: PO/Oral SIDE EFFECTS: Nausea, vomiting, heartburn, bleeding, bronchopasm and wheezing if patient is allergic DOSE: Adult: 4 chewable baby aspirin (81mg each) Pediatric: Not indicated PRECAUTIONS: Allergies to other NSAIDs, bleeding disorders, children or teens with chicken pox or influenza-like symptoms. Side effects: N/V, heartburn, bleeding, bronchospasm and wheezing if patient is allergic.

ACTION: Antihistamine ROUTE: PO/Oral SIDE EFFECTS: Sedation, tiredness sleepiness, dizziness, disturbed coordination, drying and thickening of oral and other respiratory secretions and stomach distress. DOSE: Adult: 50Mg Pediatric: 1Mg PRECAUTIONS: May induce hypo-tension, headache, palpitations, tachycardia, sedation, drowsiness, and/or disturbed coordination. EMT Basics can administer Diphenhydramine in oral over-the-counter form as allowed by protocol and medical control.

CONTRAINDICATIONS(S): Carbamate insecticides (Sevin), inorganic phosphates, and organophosphates having no anticholienesterase activity, asthma, peptic ulcer disease, severe cardiac disease or patients receiving aminophylline, theophylline, morphine, succinlycholine, reserpine, or phenothiazines.

ACTION: NSAID (Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) ROUTE: PO/Oral SIDE EFFECTS: The most common side effects from Ibuprofen are rash, ringing in the ears, headaches, dizziness, drowsiness, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, constipation and heartburn. NSAIDs reduce the ability of blood to clot and therefore increase bleeding after injury DOSE: Adult: 400-800 mg PO Pediatric: 10 mg/kg PO PRECAUTIONS: Hypertension, cardiac decompensation
GENERIC NAME: Naloxone TRADE NAME: Narcan INDICATION(S): Narcotic and synthetic narcotic overdose, coma of unknown origin CONTRAINDICATIONS(S): Hypersensitivity to the drug, non-narcotic-induced respiratory depression
ACTION: Narcotic antagonist ROUTE: Nasally SIDE EFFECTS: Abrupt reversal of narcotic depression may result in nausea, vomiting, sweating, tachycardia, increased blood pressure, tremulousness, seizures and cardiac arrest DOSE: Adult: 0.5-2 mg nasally via atomizer Pediatric: 0.1 mg/kg nasally via atomizer (max 2 mg), repeated in 5 minutes if no effect PRECAUTIONS: Possible dependency. EMT administration of Naloxone is limited to the intra-nasal route (spray).

ACTION: Parasympatholytic (increases heart rate) ROUTE: Intramuscular Injection SIDE EFFECTS: Dry mouth, blurred vision, urinary retention, tachycardia, constipation, decreased sweating DOSE: Adult: Asystole - 1 mg IV. Repeat in 3-5 minutes up to 3mg. Bradycardia - .05 - 1.0 mg IV every 3-5 minutes up to 3mg. Organophosphate - 1-2 mg IM/IV. Pediatric: Asystole - 0.02 mg IV, IO. (Min 0.1, max 1.0). May repeat in 3-5 minutes. Bradycardia - .As Asytole. Organophosphate - 0.02 mg/kg IV or IO PRECAUTIONS: AMI, glaucoma. Note: All EMS personnel may self-administer or administer to a patient, by protocol and under medical direction, nerve agent kits containing Atropine and Pralidoxime through an auto-injector system.
GENERIC NAME: Epinephrine TRADE NAME: Adrenalin, EpiPen INDICATION(S): Severe allergic reactions CONTRAINDICATIONS(S): Hypersensitivity to sympathomimetic amines, narrow angle glaucoma, hemorrhagic, traumatic, or cardiac shock; coronary insufficiency; dysrhythmias; organic brain or heart disease; or during labor.
ACTION: Sympathomimetic ROUTE: Injected SIDE EFFECTS: Increased heart rate, pallor, dizziness, chest pain, headache, nausea, vomiting, excitability, anxiety. DOSE: Adult: 0.3 mg of 1: 1,000 if age <50 years 0.15 mg of 1: 1,000 if age >50 years Pediatric: 0.15 mg of 1: 1,000 PRECAUTIONS: Elderly, debilitated patients, hypertension, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, parkinson's disease, tuberculosis, asthma, emphysema, and in children <6 yo. EMT-Basics give Epinephrine through an auto-injector pen (Epi-Pen or Epr-Jr).

ACTION: Sympathomimetic bronchodilator ROUTE: Inhalation/MDI (Meter Dosed Inhaler) SIDE EFFECTS: Increased pulse rate (tachycardia), anxiety, nausea, cough, wheezing, tremors and/ or dizziness DOSE: Adult: 2.5-5.0 mg (3cc) via nebulizer continuously, x3 doses, if no history of cardiac disease and heart rate<150 Pediatric: 2.5mg (3cc) via nebulizer continuously, x3 doses, if no history of cardiac disease and heart rate<200 PRECAUTIONS: Vitals sings and breath sounds must be monitored, use caution with elderly, cardiac, or hypertensive patients.
