The physical repercussions of making the creature was that his loved ones died but the reasons for his breakdowns was in some ways, the internal repercussions. It also shows the loss of innocence for Victor, all his pursuit for power, glory and knowledge led him to lose his innocence. In some sense, it shows the hidden guilt and shame that Victor felt because he knew that part of the reason for the death of his loved ones was because of him and instead of trying to take responsibility, he kept running away from it. His physical and mental breakdowns are also repercussions of him running away from his problems.

Provide one example of Romanticism in the work. Then, provide one example of Gothicism in the work.

One example of Gothicism in this work is the gloomy, dark, decaying setting. Despite the story being read through letters on a boat, the setting of where everything took place was dark and gloomy. Romanticism is found through the emphasis of the emotions of horror, terror, such as the creature who Victor had created.

Provide two examples (moments/events/conversations) that cultivated empathy or pity in you, the reader, for the Creature. Explain why these examples cultivated empathy or pity.

One example was when the town's people began attacking the creature based on his looks, throwing rocks and hurting him, it made me empathetic when the old man had not treat the creature badly, and the creature finally had a friend, but then the son saw the looks of the creature and treated him awfully. I felt pity because the creature could have had a companion but it was taken away from him. Another example was when Victor destroyed the female companion, taking away the creature's chance to love and be loved.

"You throw a torch into a pile of buildings, and when they are consumed, you sit among the ruins and lament the fall." Provide one way that Victor exemplifies this statement in the story. Then, provide one way that the Creature exemplifies this statement in the story.

Victor created the creature but did not want to take responsibility for his actions, when the creature asks him to create a female mate or he would murder Elizabeth, he chose not to create the female mate, which then leads to his wife's death. When he grieves for his wife, he is "lamenting the fall". The creature killed Victor's wife, which then leads to Victor wanting revenge on him, this then led to Victor's death. The creature is then overcome with grieve and proceeds to plan his suicide.

In what ways has Victor failed as a creator? Give at least three examples from the story.

Victor fails to take responsibility for the creature, he did not love the creature and because of Victor's actions, it caused the creature to kill people. He did not protect or defend the creature when it was being attacked.. He fails to meet the needs of the creature, when the creature requests for a female mate to love and for companionship, Victor agrees but destroys it, claiming that what he was doing was for selflessness but it was for selfishness because he knew the results if he did not make the mate but he still destroyed the mate, and it resulted in the death of his loved ones. He abandoned the creature and tried to kill it.

Who is ultimately responsible for the deaths of William and Justine? Explain your choice(s) with evidence from the text.

Victor is ultimately responsible for the deaths of William and Justine. Although it was the creature who killed William and caused the death of Justine, Victor did create the creature. In the story, when the creature finally has a chance to speak with Victor, the creature explained that he would not have killed William if Victor had treated him well. The creature was not a monster until Victor abandoned him, making the creature feel rejected and hurt deeply as Victor was not just any person, but his creator. This does not excuse the creature's actions, but ultimately, it was Victor's fault as he had the obsession in natural philosophy and created the creature, and then he proceeded to treat the creature with hate, thus causing the creature to want to take away any happiness from Victor since that was what Victor was doing to him.

Describe Victor's father (his personality) in one sentence.

Several times in these chapters, Victor speaks of his desperate desire to be alone. When he finally manages to break free of Clerval, he moves to the most remote location he can find to work. What is the symbolic significance of Victor's unhealthy isolation? In what way does his physical isolation reflect his current mental, spiritual, and emotional states? Use examples from the story.

Victor's unhealthy isolation was symbolic because it showed Victor's true character. Throughout the story, one can see how selfish Victor was. He did not considered the consequences of creating the creature and when he created the creature, he abandoned the creature and tried to kill it, not caring about what the creature thought or felt. When the creature came to him to ask him to create a female mate, Victor proceeded to destroy the female mate but it was fully made. He claimed that it was to stop the two from creating a race of monsters that might affect the future generations but it was because he did not want to be known as the person who had created the two creatures. Because of his need to protect his image, his wife and best friend were killed. He knew that his loved ones would die if he did not create the female mate, but yet he still went ahead and destroyed the female mate. This physical isolation caused him to be reckless in his actions.
