The geography of the landscape determines how much wind power is available. In the United States, mountainous areas and the Great Plains have the greatest potential.

Biomass can be used to produce renewable electricity, thermal energy, or transportation fuels (biofuels). Biomass is defined as living or recently dead organisms and any byproducts of those organisms, plant or animal. The term is generally understood to exclude coal, oil, and other fossilized remnants of organisms, as well as soils.

Both nuclear and fossil fuel power plants produce electricity the same way. The heat generated in these plants is used to generate steam. Difference between biomass and fossil fuels

Both of them are produced from living organisms. Biomass takes carbon out of the atmosphere while it is growing, and returns it as it is burned. If it is managed on a sustainable basis, biomass is harvested as part of a constantly replenished crop. Fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and gas are also derived from biological material. As fuels they offer high energy density, but making use of that energy involves burning the fuel, with the oxidation of the carbon to carbon dioxide and the hydrogen to water
