b. Describe the symbols for the sacrament. (2 points each)

Baptism: water, oil, a white garment, and a candle. The water represents cleaning .The oil was previously used to anoint ancient kings and queens. The white garment represents when early christians came out of the baptismal pool they wore white ropes to show rising with christ. The candle reminds us how Christ is the light. - Confirmation: represented through the receiving of a new name and anointing with oil. The receiving of a new name represents a new chosen life with God and the anointing of oil signifies the gift of the Holy Spirit.

c. Explain who should receive the sacrament. (1 point each)

- Baptism: Open to anyone, catered towards infants. - Confirmation: Confirmation is often received by teenagers so they learn more about the Holy Spirit and how to use the Spirit's many gifts to serve the church and the parish.

d. Identify who administers the sacrament. (1 point each)

- Baptism: Takes place during mass, ministered by priest, deacon, or bishop - Confirmation: Takes place during mass, only ministered by a bishop

e. Explain the effect of the sacrament on the person who receives it?

baptism :forgives personal and original sin, it gives us birth to a new life in the Church, it confers sanctifying grace, it initiates and incorporates us into the Body, lastly it seals Christians with a spiritual character. confirmation: a full outpouring of the Holy Spirit, binding us more closely to the church, and increasing the gift of the Holy Spirit in us, especially his strength to spread and defend the Christian faith.
