Excel - Chapter 3
waterfall chart
A chart that depicts a running total based on the negative and positive values
Chart area
Background for the chart; can be filled with a color, gradient, or pattern
Chart Sheet
Chart displayed in its own tab or sheet in a workbook
Histogram
Column-style chart that shows frequencies within a distribution.
Data table
Columnar display of values for each data series in a chart located below the chart
Shape effects
Command used to apply effect options, such as Shadow or Glow, to objects
Data marker
Element that represents individual values. The marker is a bar, a column, a slice, or a point on a line.
Selection handle
Four-pointed arrow that selects and moves objects
Chart layout
Set of charts elements and their locations
Chart floor
base or bottom for a 3D chart
Gridline
A horizontal or vertical line that extends across the plot area of the graph to help in identifying values
Source Data
Cell range with values and labels graphed in a chart.
Chart style
Combination of colors and effects for a chart and its elements
Horizontal (category) axis
Describes what is shown in the chart and is created from row or column headings. In a bar chart, the category axis is the vertical axis; the category axis is the horizontal axis in a column chart.
TreeMap
Displays a hierarchical view of data with different sized and colored rectangles and sub-rectangles to compare the sizes of groups
Bar chart
Displays comparisons among individual items or values at a specific period of time. Categories: Y-axis, Values: X-axis
surface chart
Displays optimum combinations of two sets of data on a surface. Categories: X-axis, Values: Y-axis
Box & Whisker
Displays the distribution of data with minimum, mean, maximum, and outlier values.
Radar chart
Displays the frequency of multiple data series relative to a center point. There is an axis for each category.
Area
Displays the magnitude of change over time and shows the rate of change. Categories: X-axis, Values: Y-axis
Stock chart
Displays three series of data to show fluctuations in stock prices from high to low to close. Categories: X-axis, Values: Y-axis
Line
Displays trends in data over time, emphasizing the rate of change. Categories: X-axis, Values: Y-axis
Filter
Feature that limits the data records that display in a datasheet
Data Series
Group of related values that are in the same column or row and translate into the columns, lines, pie slices, and other markers
sunburst chart
Hierarchy chart similar to a pie chart with concentric rings for each level in the hierarchy
Axis
Horizontal or vertical boundary that identifies what is plotted
Column chart
Illustrates data changes over a period of time or shows comparisons among items. Categories: X-axis, Values: Y-axis
Axis title
Optional description for the categories or values
data label
Optional element that displays values with the marker for each data series
Hierarchy of data
Organization of data in a database from the smallest to largest grouping of data.
Waterfall
Plots each element in a running total and displays negative and positive effects of each on the total
Funnel
Plots values that progressively decrease from one stage or process to the next
Plot area
Rectangular area bounded by the horizontal and vertical axes.
Vertical (value) axis
Shows the numbers on the chart. In a bar chart, the vertical axis is along the bottom; in a column chart, the vertical axis is along the side.
Tick mark
Small line or maker on the X-axis and Y-axis to help in reading the values
XY(scatter) chart
Used much like a line chart, but each piece of data is represented by a dot and is not connected with a line. Displays relationships among numeric values in two or more data series;
Pie
Uses one data series to display each value as a percentage of the whole.
Combo chart
Uses two types of charts to graph values that are widely different
Chart element
separate, clickable, editable part of a chart
Chart wall
vertical background for a 3D chart
