Groove Weld Terms
Face Reinforcement
Reinforcement of the weld by excess weld metal on the side from which the weld was made.
Bevel Angle
The angle formed between the prepared edge of the metal and the line perpendicular to the surface of the metal.
Depth of Bevel
The distance the joint preparation extends into the base metal.
Weld Face
The exposed surface of the weld.
Grove Angle
The included (total) angle between the groove faces of a groove weld.
Groove Weld Size
The joint penetration.(depth of joint preparation plus root penetration)
Weld Root
The point at which the back of the weld extends the farthest into the weld joint.
Weld Toe
The points where the face of the weld metal and the base metal meet.
Joint Root
The portion of a joint where the members approach closest to each other.
Root Face
The portion of the edge of a part to be joined by a groove weld that has not been beveled or angled.
Bevel Face
The prepared surface of a bevel edge shape.
Bevel Radius
The radius used to form the shape of a J or U-groove.
Root Opening
The separation between the metal to be joined at the root of the joint.
