Health Information Technology
TIGER Initiative
**(TIGER) Initiative- took place by convening over 100 professionals together to create a three-year action plan that included goals. **Nursing Informatics goals 1. Informatics Competencies 2. Education and Faculty Development 3. Staff Development 4. Leadership Development• Management and leadership *TIGER's vision- for the future of nursing addresses informatics and emerging technologies to provide safer, patient-centered care by using evidence and technology in practice, education, and research. **7 Pillars of Tiger Vision 1. Education 2. Communication and collaboration 3. Informatics design 4. Information technology 5. Policy 6. And culture 7. Management &Leadership
HIT: Antecedents
**Antecedents: 1. Hardware and Software 2. Multiple Patient Data Available 3. Data Standards and Terminology 4. Policies and Procedures Privacy and Security 5. Informatics Workforce 6. Organizational Skills
HIT: Attributes
**Attributes: 1. Technology 2. Information Used to Support Clinical Judgment, 3. Error Prevention 4. Care Coordination
Levels of Computer Users
**Computer Users Levels 1. Beginner- basic computer research 2. Experienced- use different data and determine pt care 3. Specialist- focus information; integrate different science into EHR 4. Innovator- researcher; designs new programs to fix the old problems faced.
Health Information Technology
**Definition: The application of information processing involving both computer hardware and software that deals with the storage, retrieval, sharing, and use of healthcare information, data, and knowledge for communication and decision making. **Those goals were to • adopt the electronic health record system • Interconnect clinicians so they could share patient data • Personalize the patient's care through the use of personal health records and telehealth . And improve public health by making information more readily available
Meaningful Use
**Meaningful use of an EHR is said- to improve patient care and also make it more cost effective ->3 stages ( from the beginning toward improved quality care) 1. Data capture & sharing 2. Advanced clinical processes 3. Improved outcomes: Improved quality of Patient care
Role of HIT
**Role of the HIT- is to build a interconnected, patient-centric system that will allow : 1. improved quality, safety and efficiency through better communication and care coordination, 2. safer treatment by e-prescribing, faster delivery of information and results, 3. More efficient coding and billing. A list of driving forces behind the pushing of Health Information Technology is: 4. Transparency which allows for open sharing of health related information to help care for the patient. 5. Pay for performance which associates reimbursement for health care services to quality care outcomes. 6. Increase in quality care that leads to decrease in health care costs and Workforce issues eg: shortages in nurses, physicians, pharmacists and Physical Therapists.
Nursing Informatics Competencies Model
**Tiger Nursing Informatics Competencies Model These competencies are known as: 1. Basic computer competencies 2. Information literacy 3. Information management
Nursing Informatics
*Def: is a specialty area of informatics that addresses the use of health information systems to support nursing practice *Opened nurse roles: 1. Informatics nurse 2. Informatics nurse specialist (needs a graduate degree)* -The most important thing to remember is that nurses should always follow confidentiality and HIPAA guidelines when using social media.
