What were Stalin's five year plans?
Purpose to make Russia more modern: 1. building industry 2. improving tranportation 3.increasing farm output 4. brought all economic activity under government control
How did Stalin blame the kulaks for the Soviet Union's bad economic times? What did he do to them as a result?
Stalin believed the kulaks (wealthy farners) were responsible for the farmers resistance of the Collective. They did not want to give up their land and sell crops at low prices. He confiscated kulak's land and sent them to labor camps. Thousands died as a result.
How did Stalin use propaganda?
Stalin used propaganda to build himself up as a cult-like personality. He used radio, loudspeakers, movies, billboards and newspapers.
What was the Great Purge? How did this damage the Soviet Union for the future?
The Great Purge was when Stalin and his secret police chraged old Bolsheviks and others with crimes like counter-revolutionary plots and failure to make quotas. This damaged the Soviet Union for future because a lot of the pepople purged were Soviet Unions most talented writers and thinkers and many military leaders.
What was the Soviet Union's position on religion? How did it enforce its policies?
The Soviet Unions position on religion was that people should not beleive in God. They enforced their policies by persecuting priests and other religious groups. They replaced religious icons in peoples homes with portraits of Stalin.
What were the benefits of the communist party? What were the negatives?
The benefits of the communist party were free school, social programs, free medical care, day care. The negatives were no personal freedom, bad housing, and lack of meat, fresh fruits and vegetables.
what were the positive results of the five year plans? What were the negative results ?
The positive results of the Five Year Plan were that large factories and industrial complexes grew across the Soviet Union and some peasants became skilled factory workers. The negative results were that standard of living stayed low, planning was bad and high quantities of low quality goods were produced. Wages were low and workers were forbidden to strike.
How were women treated in the communist party?
Under Communism women won equality under the law.They gained access to jobs and education.
