St. Peter's Basilica
-Located in Vatican City -Was built in 4th century, rebuilt in 16th century -Rumor says that St. Peter is buried under the building along with other saints and popes
Willis Tower
-10th tallest building in the world -Located in Chicago, Illinois -1,450 feet tall -Multi-functional office building -Used to be called Sears Tower--> used to be their headquarters (they're no longer there) -Great example of tubular structure
Mecca Royal Clock Tower
-2nd largest building in the world -Located in Mecca, Saudi Arabia (Asia) -1,972 feet tall -FYI: Mecca is the birthplace of Muhammed (the last prophet according to Muslims)
Shanghai Tower
-3rd largest building in the world -Located in Shanghai, China (Asia) -This building is not yet completed. It will be completed by the end of 2014.
One World Trade Center
-4th largest building in the world -Located in New York, New York -1,776 feet tall: was made this tall on purpose (year we declared independence) -Opened in 2014 -Used as a multifunctional office building -Located right next to where the Twin Towers were located -Have made alterations to this building to prevent terrorist attacks -Tallest building in America

-5th largest building in the world -Located in Taipei, Taiwan (Asia) -Multi-functional building -101 floors above ground -Tuned mass damper

-6th largest building in the world -Located in Shangai, China (Asia) -FYI: this building is right next to Shanghai Tower, the #2 building

-Located in Germany -Palace for King Ludwig, now a tourist attraction -Was never totally finished -Sleeping beauty castle--- Disney Land
Farnsworth House
-Located in Illinois -Elevated because there was flooding expected in the area -Was used as a weekend home for Dr. Farnsworth, now a tourist attraction -Has a skeleton frame

-Located in India -Mausoleum for the leaders favorite wife who died giving birth to their 14th child -Minaretes: prayer towers (Muslim religion) -Used elephants to transport the materials for the building -The emperor is buried here too -Now used as a tourist attraction

-Located in Istanbul, Turkey -Multifunctional building: 1st) church, 2nd) mosque, now a museum -the dome was damaged in an earthquake
St. Basil's Cathedral
-Located in Moscow, Russia--- Red Square, government center -Was a church, now a museum -Ivan the Terrible had the architect blinded so that he could never make a building more beautiful than this one -Onion dome -Russia is no longer part of the Soviet Union or the USSR because they don't exist anymore

Pantheon
-Located in Rome, Italy -Pantheon: means everything divine -Was first used to worship Pagan Gods, and then used for Catholics, now a museum -Oculus: all light from the building comes from this hole
Colosseum
-Located in Rome, Italy -Used to be used as an amphitheater, now used as a tourist attraction -They would sometimes flood the bottom of the theater and have sea battles -Gladiators would also fight here
Sydney Opera House
-Located in Sydney, Australia -Used as a performing arts center: not only for operas -Joan Utzon (one of the architects), was chosen by winning an international design contest
United States Capitol
-Located in Washington D.C. -Statue on top of the building is called the "Statue of Freedom" -Senate meets here on one side, House of Representatives on the other side= Congress= Legislative -Has a neoclassical architecture
