Determine the probability of the given complementary event. What is the probability that a 0.270 hitter in baseball will not get a hit on his next at-bat?

0.730 ( 1 - 0.270 )

Determine the probability of the given complementary event. What is the probability of randomly selecting a month of the year and not getting a month that has at least 30 days?

1/12

An experiment consists of drawing 1 card from a standard 52-card deck. What is the probability of drawing a king?

1/13

Use the theoretical method to determine the probability of the given outcome or event. Assume that the die is fair. Rolling a single six-sided die and getting a 2, 3, 4, or 5.

2/3

Use the theoretical method to determine the probability of the following event. A randomly selected person has a birthday in December

31/365

What is a probability distribution? Explain how to make a table of a probability distribution.

A probability distribution represents the probabilities of all possible events of interest. The sum of all the probabilities in a probability distribution must be 1. To make a table of a probability distribution, list all possible outcomes, identify the outcomes that represent the same event, and then find the probability of each event.

Use the theoretical method to determine the probability of the following outcome and event. State any assumptions made. Tossing two coins and getting either one head or two heads

Assuming that each coin is fair and is equally likely to land heads or tails, the probability is 3/4.

Suppose you randomly select a family with three children. Assume that births of boys and girls are equally likely. a. How many birth orders are possible? List them in a probability distribution table. b. What is the probability of two boys and a girl? c. What is the probability of two girls and a boy in that order? d. What is the probability of at least one boy? e. What is the probability of at least two girls?

a. 8 Three girls 1/8 Two girls, one boy 3/8 One girl, two boys 3/8 Three boys 1/8 Total: 1 b. 3/8 c. 1/8 d. 7/8 e. 4/8 = 1/2

a. With respect to gender, how many different three-child families are possible if birth order is taken into account? b. What is the probability of a three-child family with zero girls?

a. 8 b. 1/8

a. What does it mean when we write P(A)? b. What is the possible range of values for P(A), and why?

a. P(A) means the probability that event A will occur, and the equation for P(A) is P(A)= (number of times A occurred) / (total number of observations) b. The range of possible values for P(A) is from 0 to 1 (inclusive), with 0 meaning there is no chance that event A will occur and 1 meaning it is certain that event A will occur.
