volumetric flask

A volumetric flask (measuring flask or graduated flask) is a piece of laboratory glassware, a type of laboratory flask, calibrated to contain a precise volume at a particular temperature. Volumetric flasks are used for precise dilutions and preparation of standard solutions.

dissecting probe

This is a long, 6" needle inserted into a small, wooden handle. Used to tease and separate specimens, pin body parts, and explore dissected animals.

test tube clamp/ buret clamp

hot plate

a flat heated surface (or a set of these), typically portable, used for cooking food or keeping it hot.

buret

a graduated glass tube with a tap at one end, for delivering known volumes of a liquid, especially in titrations.

scalpel

a knife with a small, sharp, sometimes detachable blade, as used by a surgeon.

Beaker

a lipped cylindrical glass container for laboratory use.

forceps

a pair of pincers or tweezers used in surgery or in a laboratory.

microscope slide

a part of a machine or musical instrument that slides. the place on a machine or instrument where a sliding part operates. slide guitar. "I'd been playing slide for years"

stopper

a plug for sealing a hole, especially in the neck of a bottle or other container. synonyms:

iron ring

a ring worn by many Canadian-trained engineers, as a symbol and reminder of the obligations and ethics associated with their profession.

petri dish

a shallow, circular, transparent dish with a flat lid, used for the culture of microorganisms.

dropper

a short glass tube with a rubber bulb at one end and a tiny hole at the other, for measuring out drops of medicine or other liquids.

pipete

a slender tube attached to or incorporating a bulb, for transferring or measuring out small quantities of liquid, especially in a laboratory.

evaporating dish

a small ceramic dish in which liquids are heated over a flame so that they evaporate, leaving a solid residue.

coverslip

a small, thin piece of glass used to cover and protect a specimen on a microscope slide.

wash bottle

a squeeze bottle with a nozzle, used to rinse various pieces of laboratory glassware, such as test tubes and round bottom flasks. Wash bottles are sealed with a screw-top lid.

Test Tube

a thin glass tube closed at one end, used to hold small amounts of material for laboratory testing or experiments.

wire gauze

a thin translucent fabric of silk, linen, or cotton. MEDICINE thin, loosely woven cloth used for dressing and swabs. a transparent haze or film. "they saw the grasslands through a gauze of golden dust" 2. a very fine wire mesh.

funnel

a tube or pipe that is wide at the top and narrow at the bottom, used for guiding liquid or powder into a small opening.

balance

an even distribution of weight enabling someone or something to remain upright and steady.

spatula

an implement with a broad, flat, blunt blade, used for mixing and spreading things, especially in cooking and painting.

stirring rod

piece of laboratory equipment used to mix chemicals and liquids for laboratory purposes. They are usually made of solid glass, about the thickness and slightly longer than a drinking straw, with rounded ends.

ring stand

piece of scientific equipment, to which clamps can be attached to hold test tubes and other equipment such as burettes which are most often used in titration experiments.

pipestem/clay triangle

the shaft of a tobacco pipe.

spot plate

used to perform reactions on a small amount of materials. Often made of ceramic, HST also offers autoclavable polystyrene spot plates and a microplate. Each plate features numerous depressions (wells), either 12 or 24, in which to perform the reaction.

Florence Flask

A Florence flask is a type of flask used as an item of laboratory glassware. It is used as a container to hold liquids. A Florence flask has a round body with a flat bottom and a single long neck.

mortar & pestle

A Pestle and mortar is a device used since ancient times to prepare ingredients or substances by crushing and grinding them into a fine paste or powder. The mortar (/ˈmɔrtər/) is a bowl, typically made of hard wood, ceramic or stone.

dissecting needle

A needle that helps cut apart or separate organs while dissecting a specimen.

inoculating loop

An inoculation loop, also called a smear loop, inoculation wand or microstreaker, is a simple tool used mainly by microbiologists to retrieve an inoculum from a culture of microorganisms. The loop is used in the cultivation of microbes on plates by transferring inoculum for streaking.
