Dictator

Haitian Revolution

Miguel Hidalgo

Mexican priest and revolutionary. Although the revolt he initiated (1810) against Spanish rule failed, he is regarded as a national hero in Mexico's struggle for independence from Spain.

Mexican Independence

Revolution started by Father Miguel Hidalgo; gained independence against Spain with much bloodshed. Creoles led the way and Mexico won independence in 1821

Spanish-born, came to Latin America; ruled, highest social class.
