Logos & Ethos

Logos is a method of persuading an audience with reason, using facts and figures. Ex: You HAVE to buy this 60-inch wide screen, it's only $970.00!! Ethos tries to persuade an audience of a persons or groups credibility or character. Ex: You have to buy a 60-inch wide screen; the Atlanta Braves has this model in their homes and in their locker room.

Civil disobedience

The refusal too obey certain laws or government demands for the purpose of changing government policy through nonviolent means such as boycotting or picketing. Examples: Gandhi's Salt March in 1930; Rosa Parks refusing to give up her seat on a bus in 1955; MLK's peaceful protest marches in the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950's- 1960's; The Cape Town Peace March of 1989 to end apartheid.

Participle

a word formed from a verb and used as an adjective or a noun. Ex: The running dog was tired. ( run is a verb, add "ing" and it becomes an adjective describing the dog.
