Robert
A bigun who plays the role of the pig in one of the tribal dances reenacting the hunt. He is hurt when the dance turns into a fierce beating.
Bill
A choirboy who merely follows Jack and becomes a hunter. Jack's painted face frightens him.
Percival Wemys Madison
A littlun who has crying fits and is often picked on by the other littluns. He hides in a shelter for two days. He memorizes and recites his full name, address, and phone number.
Phil
A littlun who speaks of his fears of the beast during the night; accidentally mistook a night-walking Simon as the beast
Ralph
Blonde, handsome, athletic, natural leader, thoughtful, elected chief; Tries to keep the boys focused on domestic order and the rules of civilization, but fails to do so.
Simon
Dark, shaggy-haired, sensitive, loner, brave, supportive, has fainting spells. humiliated about being "taken short" at night. spends time alone in the jungle; Truly understands the nature of the beast and has the courage to encounter it.
Boy w/ mulberry colored birthmark
Gets lost/killed early on, in the out-of-control signal fire. The first to mention the beastie
The Littluns
Numerous small children of the group.
Johnny
One of the smaller littluns who is tormented by Roger and Maurice while building sandcastles
Jack
Red-headed leader of the choir; he eventually becomes leader of the hunters. Favors savagery and hunting over civilized domesticity and hope of being rescued.

Sea, Snake, Ape, other random creatures described by the littluns
Piggy
Subject of the group's ridicule for his weight, asthma, and poor physical capabilities/stamina. Smartest boy on the island and socially awkward.
Henry
The biggest of the littluns who is made the object of a mean-spirited prank by Roger (gets rocks thrown at him). He was fascinated by the the tiny tidal wave.
Samneric (Sam and Eric)
Twin boys in charge of keeping the signal fire going. They remain loyal to Ralph until captured by Jack's tribe.
Maurice
"Grinning all the time," choir boy; Jack's right-hand man, accompanying him to raids on Ralph's camp; Roger's accomplice
Roger
"Slight, furtive," natural tendency to cruelty. Tortures Samneric until they join Jack's tribe; Prepares a stick to mount Ralph's head on. The cruelest boy on the island, showing no mercy and killing deliberately.
