Ural Mountains

This is the 6th longest (above water) mountain range in the world. It forms part of the conventional boundary between Asia and Europe, (running through Eastern Russia and northwestern Kazakhstan). The highest peak in this range is Mount Narodnaya which is 1895 meters.

Appalachian Mountains

This is the 8th longest (above water) mountain range in the world and the second longest mountain range in North America. Mount Mitchell is the highest point in this range (2037 meters) and is located in North Carolina (USA). This mountain range runs through the Eastern USA and Canada

Transantarctic Mountains

This is the longest mountain range in Antarctica and is the 4th longest (above water) mountain range in the world. This highest point in this range is Mount Kirkpatrick at 4528 meters (not the tallest peak in Antarctica). This range divides East Antarctica from West Antarctica.

Serra do Mar

This mountain range runs parallel to the Atlantic ocean in Brazil. The highest peak in this range is Pedra do Sino at about 2253 meters.

Alaska Range

This range is in North America and runs through The United States (Alaska); The highest point in this range is: Denali, (6194 meters) (Formerly Mt. McKinley) which is the highest point in North America (and the 10th highest point on Earth)

Pyrenees

A chain of mountains between France and Spain with the microstate of Andorra sandwiched in between. The highest point of this range is Aneto (3404 meters) in Spain

Alps

A major mountain range in Europe running though France, Switzerland, Italy, Monaco, Liechtenstein, Austria, Germany, and Slovenia. The highest point in this range is Mount Blanc (4696 meters) which is located on the border of France and Italy.

Carpathian Mountains or Carpathians

A mountain range system forming an arc roughly 1,500 km (932 mi) long across Central and Eastern Europe through Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Ukraine, Serbia and Romania. The highest point in this range is Gerlachovský štít (2655 meters) (sometimes called Gerlach) in Slovakia

Caucasus Mountains

A mountain system in west Asia Black Sea and the Caspian Sea running though Russia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Iran and Armenia forming a section of the natural boarder between Europe and Asia. The highest peak in this range is Mount Elbrus (5642 meters) in Russia

U.S. Interior Highlands

A mountainous region in the central US in Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Kansas. The highest point in this range is Mount Magazine at 839 meters. Includes the Ouachita Mountains and the Ozark Plateaus.

Grampian Mountains

Mountain range in Scotland (part of the Scottish highlands) which includes Great Britain's highest point Ben Nevis (1345 meters)

Owl Mountains

Mountain range in Southwestern Poland. The range's highest point is Wielka Sowa (1014 meters)

Sawtooth Mountains

Mountain range on the North Shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota. The range is cut by multiple rivers which makes for rugged backpacking despite the lack of tall peaks. The Sawtooth mountains include the Superior Hiking trail but do not include Minnesota's highest peak which is Eagle Mountain.

Cerros de Escazú

The Cerros de Escazú is a mountain range in San José Province, central Costa Rica. The highest peak is Cerro Rabo de Mico with 2,428 m

Atlas Mountains

This is the 7th longest (above water) mountain range in the world and Africa's longest mountain range. It runs through Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia in north Africa. Toubkal is the highest peak in this range (4167 meters) which is located in Morocco.

Great Dividing Range (or Eastern Highlands)

This is the longest mountain range in Australia and is the third longest (above water) mountain range in the world. The highest point in this range is Mount Kosciuszko (Snowy Mountains) at 2228 meters.

Rocky Mountains

This is the longest mountain range in North America (2nd longest (above water) in the world) and runs through west central Canada and the USA. the highest point in this range in Mount Elbert (4401 meters) in Colorado.

Sierra Nevada

This mountain range runs through California and Nevada. It is home to Yosemite Sequoia, and Kings Canyon National Parks. It includes Lake Tahoe (the largest Alpine lake in North America). The highest peak in this range is Mount Whitney (4421 meters) in California (USA)

Tian Shan

This range is in Asia but is not part of the Greater Himalayas. The range runs through China, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan. The highest point in this range is Jengish Chokusu, (7439 meters) which is the 6th highest peak on Earth and is located in China.

Andes

This range is in South America and runs through Argentina, Chile, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia and Venezuela (Western South America); The highest point of this range is Aconcagua, located in Argentina, (6962 meters) and is the highest point in South America (9th highest on earth). The Andes are the longest mountain range (above sea level -- the mid-ocean ridge is longer) in South America and the world

Montes Apenninus

This range was formed by the impact that created Mare Imbrium. It includes the moon's highest mountain -- Mount Huygens (5500 meters) which, oddly enough is not the moon's highest point.

Hindu Kush

This range, part of the Greater Himalayas is in Asia and runs through Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. The highest point of this range is highest Tirich Mir (7708 meters) which is the third highest peak on Earth and is located in Pakistan.

Hengduan Mountains

This range, part of the Greater Himalayas is in Asia and runs through China, and Myanmar. The highest point in this range is Mount Gongga, (7556 meters) which is the 5th highest peak on Earth and is located in China.

Nyenchen Tanglha

This range, part of the Greater Himalayas is in Asia and runs through China. The highest point of this range is: Mount Nyenchen Tanglha, (7162 meters) which is the 8th highest peak on earth

Mahalangur Himal

This range, part of the Greater Himalayas is in Asia and runs through Nepal, India, China, Pakistan, & Bhutan; The highest point of this range is mount Everest (8848 meters) which is the highest (above water) mountain on earth. The peak is shared by China and Nepal.

Pamirs

This range, part of the Greater Himalayas is in Asia and runs through Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, China and Afghanistan; The highest point of this range is Kongur Tagh, (7649 meters) which is the 4th highest peak on Earth and is located in China.

Kunlun

This range, part of the Greater Himalayas is in Asia and runs through central China. The highest point of this range is: Liushi Shan, (7167 meters) which is the 7th highest peak on earth. This is the longest mountain range in Asia (5th longest (above water) on Earth.

Karakoram

This range, part of the Greater Himalayas is in Asia and spans the borders of Pakistan, India, and China. The highest point of this range is K2 (8611 meters) which is the second highest peak on Earth. Border perceptions differ for India, Pakistan and China so it is really hard to say what country K2 is in.

Western Ghats also known as Sahyadri (Benevolent Mountains)

a mountain range that runs parallel to the western coast of the Indian peninsula, located entirely in India. The highest peak in this range is Anamudi, Kerala (2695 meters).

Montes Agricola

an elongated range of mountains near the eastern edge of the central Oceanus Procellarum lunar mare. It lies just to the northwest of a plateau containing the craters Herodotus and Aristarchus. It is on the moon.

Blue Mountains

the longest mountain range in Jamaica. The range include the island's highest point, which shares the name of the range, at 2256 m
