Declaration of Independence established -Inspired by Enlightenment ideas and justified independence.

American Revolution - A political upheaval fought between Britain and the Thirteen American Colonies. The Colonies won their independence and created the United States of America.

Assassination of Czar Alexander II -By The Land and Freedom Party, and brought an end to government reform.

Boxer Rebellion -An internal rebellion led by a group called the Boxers, who unsuccessfully sought to rid China of foreign influence.

Chinese Revolution; end of Chinese dynastic rule - Highest part of the Chinese Communist Party's drive to power since its founding in 1921 and the second part of Chinese Civil War.

Civil Code established - Affirmed the political and legal equality of all adult men, established a merit- based society, and protected private property.

Congress of Vienna -A meeting held in Vienna and attended by representatives of the nations that had defeated Napoleon Bonaparte. Goal was to restore Europe.

Revolution of 1905 (Russia) -An uprising that was tried to make Tsar Nicholas II attempt the transformation of the Russian government from an autocracy into a constitutional monarchy.

Rule of Muhammad Ali of Egypt -A commander in the Ottoman army, who modernized the nation by focusing on military and industrialization.

Rule of Napoleon Bonaparte -A French military and political leader who rose to leadership during the French Revolution and its associated wars.

Russo- Japanese War -A war fought between Russia and Japan over territories. In winning the war, Japan emerged as a world power.

Sepoy Rebellion - Also known as India's First War of Independence. It was a revolt of the Sepoy troops in British India, resulting in the transfer of the administration of India from the East India Company to the crown.

Seven Years' War -A war fought between German kingdom of Prussia, supported by Britain, and an alliance that included Austria, France, and Russia. Prussia and Britain won, and their victory greatly increased their power.
