flexion at wrist

Bending the joint resulting in a decrease of angle; moving the palm of the hand toward the front of the forearm.

lateral flexion of the spine

Lateral movement away from the midline of the body; moving the spine to the side (left or right); the neck (T1-S1) moves toward the shoulder.

abduction at hip

Lateral movement away from the midline of the body; moving the thigh outward with hip straight.

adduction at wrist

Medial movement toward the midline of the body; moving the little finger side of the hand toward the medial side of the forearm. fingers spreading out = abduction of fingers

adduction at hip

Medial movement toward the midline of the body; moving the thigh inward with hip straight.

adduction at shoulder

Medial movement toward the midline of the body; moving the upper arm down to the side toward the body.

lateral rotation of spine

Rotary movement around the longitudinal axis of the bone; turning the spine to the side (right or left); the thorax rotates to one side. if humerus just rotating = medial rotation at shoulder

hyperextension at wrist

Straightening the joint resulting in an increase of angle; moving the back of the hand toward the back of the forearm.

extension at knee

Straightening the joint resulting in an increase of angle; moving the lower leg away from the back of the thigh.

plantar flexion of the ankle

in which the foot is pointed downwards

circumduction at hip

is a conical movement of a limb extending from the joint (e.g. shoulder or hip) at which the movement is controlled. It allows for 360 degrees of movement.

Depression at mandible

opening of mouth & dropping chin

supination of forearm

palm up - holding soup

hyperextension at neck

sudden backward acceleration of skull creating extreme extension of the cervical spine

extension at hip

the backward movement of your thigh

flexion at neck

the movement in which the chin is lowered down toward the chest

Extension at neck

the neck is extended, as in looking upward toward the ceiling

Rotation at neck (lateral rotation)

turn side to side

inversion of foot

occurs when the foot rolls over so that the sole of the foot increasingly faces the opposing foot.

flexion at hip

when you bring your leg forward to the front- the bending motion that brings your thigh toward your chest

circumduction at shoulder

360 degrees rotation

hyperextension at hip

Normal hip extension range of motion is zero to 30 degrees. Hip hyperextension is any motion exceeding the normal extension range, so greater than 30 degrees.

protraction at mandible

a forward projection of a facial structure; drawing out/lengthening

pronation of the forearm

back of hand to sky
