Multimodal Therapy
- Its base rests primarily on social learning theory. (started as cognitive behavioral therapy) - Lazar realized more was needed in behavior therapy - It's essentially behavioral, but it has evolved into an approach that employs additional assessment & treatment procedures & strategies.
How is multimodal therapy related to Behaviorism?
- Procedure in which the therapist deliberately tunes into the clients preferred modality before branding off into other dimensions that seem likely to be more productive. - Start where the client is & lead into more effective areas.
Bridging
- Used to describe the multimodal orientation - Conveys custom-made, personalistic, emphasis - The form, style, & cadence of therapy are fitted, whenever possible, each client's perceived requirements. - Basic quests are "Who or what is best for this particular individual?"
What is bespoke therapy?
- A process of examining the firing order of the different modalities - Ex: SCIB ( sensory to cognitive to Imagery to Behavior)
Tracking
- Behavior - Affect - Sensation - Imagery - Cognitive - Interpersonal - Relationship - Drugs - Biology
What are modalities referred to by the BASIC I.D acronym?
- Ability of the counselor to use previous knowledge & experience to adjust to their client as needed. - Realizing that the client may require a multiplicity of techniques - Large chart of when to use which technique
What is Technical eclecticism?
- When treatment impasses arise, it's often helpful to introduce a second-order BASIC ID assessment. - Consists of subjecting a problematic item on the initial modality profile to more detailed inquiry in terms of behavior, affect, sensation, imagery, cognitions, interpersonal factors, & drugs or biological considerations
What is a second order assessment?
- Structural profile: May readily be drawn from the following instructions: "Here are 7 rating scales that pertains to various tendencies that people have. Using a scale of 0 to 6 (6 high & 0 doesn't describe you) please rate yourself" - Modality profile: List problems & proposed treatments across the BASIC I.D.
What is structural profile & what is modality profile?
- Patients are usually troubled by a multitude of specific problems that should be dealt with by a broad range of methods

Multimodal Life History Inventory
What is the name of the instrument/questionnaire that clients fill out at the beginning of therapy of their BASIC ID?
