Answer the following questions about Landscape Photographer Ansel Adams Explain his compositional style? Explain Ansel Adams's invention of the Zone System? Why did he shoot at a narrow aperture? What are the key characteristics that make his style unique?
Ansel Adams's "Zone System" is a method of photographic exposure control that divides the tonal range of a scene into distinct "zones," allowing photographers to precisely pre-visualize and control the final tonal balance of their image by meticulously adjusting exposure and development based on the light values in different parts of the scene, essentially ensuring that both shadows and highlights retain detail within the desired range; he often used a narrow aperture to maximize depth of field and capture sharp details across the entire scene, a key element of his signature style which focused on capturing the grandeur of natural landscapes with exceptional clarity and tonal precision.
To get the correct exposure in manual what three things do you need to consider?
Aperture, ISO and shutter speed
What 3 terms create the exposure triangle in photography?
Apperture, Shutter speed, and ISO

Landscape Photos usually use a _________________________________ depth of field, making the whole image in focus.
Deep
A histogram gives information about the
Exposure of a digital image
What is an advantage, disadvantage of the daguerreotype?
Permanent image, not very clear
Macro photos usually use a _________________________depth of field, making just the foreground in focus.
Shallow
Making a waterfall appear smooth and milky in a photograph requires a
Slow shutter speed
Stop Action
The Motion/action is in focus and the background is in focus
The (higher or lower) the ISO number the LESS sensitive your camera will be to light.
lower
Shutter speed is measured in
seconds or fractions of a second
If an object is moving fast, would you be more likely to use a fast shutter speed or a slow shutter speed to get a clear image? Why?
you would use a fast shutter speed because a fast shutter speed freezes the motion, preventing blurriness caused by the object's movement
What is ISO?
camera setting that controls camera's sensitivity to light
The (higher or Lower ) the ISO number the MORE sensitive your camera will be to light.
higher
George Eastman created what type of camera?
Kodak
1. Explain Portrait Photography Dorthea Lange's most famous portrait. a. What was the Title of the work? b.What year was it taken? c.How many shots did it take to get the final print? d. What was one of the reasons for some of the changes she made in Photos 1-5? e. What does this photograph define? 2 Why was Langes work so important to the history of art?
1. Migrant Mother, one of Dorothea Lange's most well known photographs, was not taken in a single shot. Migrant Mother depicts a poor farmworker and her children in a 1936 pea pickers' camp in Nipomo, California. It took 6 shots to get the perfect pose. 2. Lange used photography to document the difficult period of the Depression and to motivate agencies and individuals to take action to improve the situation. With her photographs Lange was able to capture the emotional and physical toll that the Depression and other events took on human beings across the country. She documented how poverty created situations where families needed to frequently pack up all of their belongings and move at a moment's notice. Her photos inspired the novel 'The Grapes of Wrath' by John Steinbeck whose characters had to leave their drought ridden farm and move to California to try and lead a better life. Migrant Mother provided such a persuasive, straightforward, and iconic image of a destitute, worried mother concerned about providing for her children that a sympathetic public and government sent a total of $200,000 in aid and free medical care to the pea-picker's camp three days later.

Does a fast shutter speed have a large or small number (or fraction)?
A fast shutter speed has a LARGE DENOMINATOR meaning 1/1000 is faster than 1/100
