The Ingredients of Photosynthesis

- sunlight - water(H2O) - carbon dioxide(Co2)

Carbon Dioxide(Co2)

A colorless, odorless gas created by burning carbon and organic compounds and by respiration. This invisible gas is naturally present in air (about 0.03 percent) and is absorbed by plants in the process that keeps plants alive know as photosynthesis. During photosynthesis, cells use carbon dioxide (Co2) and energy from the Sun to create sugar molecules and oxygen.

Glucose

A simple sugar that is an important energy source in organisms and is a component of many carbohydrates. This sugar is made by plants in the process of photosynthesis.

What is the oxygen used for?

Oxygen is used for heterotrophs to breathe.

What is produced in photosynthesis?

Glucose and oxygen.

What is the glucose used for?

Glucose is used for energy and growth

Chlorophyll

Green pigment that is present in all green plants and cyanobacteria, responsible for the absorption of light to provide energy for photosynthesis. Its molecule contains a magnesium atom held in porphyrin ring. This green pigment is inside the chloroplasts.

Sunlight

Light Energy from the sun and during the photosynthesis, plants trap light energy with their leaves. Plants use this light energy to transform water and carbon dioxide into a sugar or source of energy that is called glucose. This sugar is used by plants for energy to create other substances like cellulose and starch.

Chloroplast

Organelles that are found in plant cells and eukaryotic algae that conduct photosynthesis. Chloroplasts absorb sunlight and use it in conjunction with water and carbon dioxide gas to produce food for the plant.

Where does the water come from?

The water comes from the ground

Stomata

Tiny pores in the epidermises of the leaves of stems of plants , forming a slit of variable width that allows the movement of gases in and out of the intercelluar spaces.

Photosynthesis

A process in which plants make their own food, also known as glucose. This is the process for plants to live.

Water(H2O)

A fresh colorless, clear, odorless, tasteless liquid that forms seas, rivers, lakes, and rain and is the basis of every organism or creature on Earth. The fresh water travels from the plants' leaves to a transport tissue called xylem. Water works with carbon dioxide to create spongy and palisade cells.

Where does the water enter the plant?

From the ground to the roots
