Pi
example
for example, if we want to find the area of the circle and if the radius was 5. we will plug in the information that we have and solve as we solve for any other problem for the area. for example, if we want to find the circumference of the circle and if the radius was 10. and same as the other one.
example
for example, if we want to find the volume of a cylinder and if the radius was 10.
the formula for area or circumference of a circle.
A= πr2 C=2 πr
π
Pi is also written as the greek letter π. Pi has proven to be a very useful concept in many ways. Many geometrical formulas require Pi. Pi had been proved to be the decimal that never ends or repeats.
what is Pi?
Pi is circumference divided by the diameter of the circle. Pi is one of the known irrational numbers which is basically a number that cannot be expressed as a fraction. Pi is also an approximated as 3.14 to 1 or 22/7. in another words Pi is a constant ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter.
other facts
The symbol for Pi is used daily for 250 years. 10434/33215 is the closest and most accurate fraction of Pi. The first 31 digits of Pi do not have any zeroes. People have studied Pi for about 4000 years. To this day we celebrate Pi day on March 14 because the first three numbers are 3.14. Also, there is man named Rajveer Meena from India who has a Guinness World Record for memorizing 70,000 numbers of Pi. Additionally, some people invented a language known as Pilish. In Pilish the numbers of letters in the words match the number of Pi.
formulas that use Pi
There are many formulas that uses Pi in some way like circumference and area of circle, like volume of cone, cylinder and sphere.
Comparison between today's and ancient use of Pi.
Babylonians used pi to find out exactly how much grain a barn would hold or how much land was bordered by a fence or wall. The Babylonians were also able to divide land and fields or estimate the number of bricks they would need for the perimeter of a construction project. Today we use Pi to find planets outside of our solar system. Another example is when we use Pi to figure out how much it will it take to fence a circular area.
different estimation
Babylonians were very close and estimated Pi as 3.125. On the other hand, The Egyptians were also close and estimated Pi to be 3.1605. and china just used pi as 3. Around 240 BC, Greek mathematician Archimedes of Syracuse (287-212 BC) found a very close approximation of the value of Pi using his "method of exhaustion".
historical facts
In 1706, William Jones (1675-1749) became the first English mathematician to use the symbol by itself to symbolize this important ratio. When the Swiss mathematician Leonhard Euler (1707-1783) approved the π symbol in 1737, it soon became approved by all. In 1767, Swiss German mathematician Johann Heinrich Lambert (1728-77) confirmed that Pi is irrational and that no fractional or decimal number represent it exactly.
why is pi impotant?
Pi is one of the most important idea in math. Pi is a very important concept is because it is an irrational number. Pi also appears in physics, such as in light and sound waves. Also Pi is such an important notion is because it is everywhere. Pi is also very useful in different ways.
Method of exhaustion:
he drew a square inside and outside of the circle until he had 96 sided polygon. in the end, he was then able to calculate that the outside polygon had a ratio of 3.1408 and the inside had one of 3.1428. He then knew that Pi was somewhere between the two ratios. However, like the square root of two, Pi cannot be calculated exactly because it is considered irrational.
