Stakeholder Matrix

A matrix that compares current and desired stakeholder engagement levels

SWOT Analysis

Analysis of (S) strengths, (W) weaknesses, (O) Opportunities, and (T) threats of an organization, project, or option

Functional Organization

An organizational structure in which staff are grouped by areas of specialization and the project management has limited authority to assign work and apply resources

Project-oriented Structure

Any organizational structure in which the project manager has full authority to assign priorities and resources, and to direct the work of persons assigned to the project

Matrix Organization

Any organizational structure in which the project manager shares responsibility with the functional managers for assigning priorities and for directing the work of persons assigned to the project

Solution requirements

Describe the features, functions, and characteristics of a product, service, or result that will meet the business and stakeholder requirements. Solution requirements are further grouped into functional and nonfunctional requirements

Business requirements

Describe the higher-level needs of the organization, such as business issues or opportunities, and reasons why a project has been undertaken

Stakeholder requirements

Describe the needs of a stakeholder or stakeholder group, and could include customers, suppliers, and partners, as well as internal business roles

Sponsors

Organizations, firms, or individuals that give teams money in exchange for naming rights and advertising rights on stadium signage.

Project Management

The application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to project activities to meet the project requirements.

Project Scope Statement

The description of the project scope, major deliverables, and exclusions.

Project Manager

The person assigned by the performing organization to lead the team that is responsible for achieving the project objectives.

Milestone

A significant point or event in a project.

RACI Analysis

A RACI matrix uses (R) responsible, (A) accountable, (C) consult, and (I) inform statuses to define how involved stakeholders are in each part of the project.

Change Management Plan

A component of the project management plan that establishes the change control board, documents the extent of its authority, and describes how the change control system will be implemented

Cause and Effect Diagram

A decomposition technique that helps trace a problem back to its root cause

Decision Tree

A diagram used to evaluate a chain of decision and final outcomes

Project Charter

A document issued by the project imitator or sponsor that formally authorizes the existence of a project and provides the project manger with the authority to apply organizational resources to project activities.

Business Case

A documented economic feasibility study used to establish the validity of the benefits of a selected component lacking sufficient definition and that is used as a basis for the authorization of further project management activities.

Project Portfolio

A grouping of projects, programs, subsidiary portfolios, and operations managed to achieve a strategic objective.

Stakeholder Register

A project document including the identification, assessment, and classification of project stakeholders.

Product Life Cycle

A series of phases that represent the evolution of a product, from concept through delivery, growth, maturity, and to retirement.

Project

A temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product, service, or result.

Stakeholder

An individual, group, or organization that may affect, be affected by, or perceive itself to be affected by a decision, activity, or outcome of a project, program, or portfolio.

Deliverable

Any unique and verifiable product, result, or capability to perform a service that is produced to complete a process, phase, or project.

Business partners

Business partners are external companies, but they have a special relationship with the enterprise, sometimes attained through a certification process. Business partners provide specialized expertise or fill a specified role such as installation, customization, training, or support.

Quality requirements

Capture any condition or criteria needed to validate the successful completion of a project deliverable or fulfillment of other project requirements

Sellers

Contractors, suppliers, or providers who provide goods and services to other organizations

Transition requirements

Describe temporary capabilities, such as data conversion and training requirements, and operational changes needed to transition from the current state to the future state

Project requirements

Describe the actions, processes, or other conditions the project needs to meet

Nonfunctional requirements

Describe the environmental conditions or qualities required for the product to be effective

Organizational groups

Groups created by organizations, usually to solve organizational problems

RAID Analysis

Identify key risks (R), assumptions (A), issues (I), and dependencies (D) in a project

Functional managers

Responsible for the efficiency and effectiveness of a specific area such as accounting or marketing.

Project Life Cycle

The series of phases that a project passes through from its start to its completion.

Project Scope

The work performed to deliver a product, service, or results with specified features and functions.

Facilitating Change Management

To facilitate change management, different types of tools may be used. Tool selection should be based on the needs of the project stakeholders, including organizational and environmental considerations and/or constraints

Requirements

statements provided by the stakeholder, explaining business problems or business needs that must be addressed

Customers and users

the persons or organizations who will approve and manage the project's product, service or result. Users will use the project's product, service, or result.
