Protein Synthesis
Translation Process
amino acid attachment, initiation of polypeptide synthesis, elongation, termination
Polypeptide
long chain of amino acids that makes proteins
What is the function of mRNA?
mRNA takes the code from DNA in the nucleus and translate that infromation into sets of codon
Protein
An organic compound that is made of one or more chains of amino acids and that is a principal component of all cells (Skin, Hair, Nails)
Phenotype
An organism's physical appearance, or visible traits.
Amino Acid
Building blocks of protein
What are the two steps of protein synthesis?
1. Transcription 2. Translation
Rough ER
A network of interconnected membranous sacs in a eukaryotic cell's cytoplasm; covered with ribosomes that make membrane proteins and secretory proteins.
Golgi Apparatus
A system of membranes that modifies and packages proteins for export by the cell
Transcription Process
DNA to mRNA mRNA takes the code from DNA and translates the information at the ribosome in the cytoplams
Describe the role of protein synthesis in determining an organisms phenotype
DNA to mRNA to amino acid to protein to phenotype
What is the protein manufactoring site of the cell?
Ribosome
Organelles in Protein Synthesis
Ribosomes are the organelles responsible for protein translation and are composed of ribosomal RNA (rRNA) and proteins. Some ribosomes are found in the cytoplasm, a gel-like substance that organelles float in and some are found in the rough endoplasmic reticulum. Ribosome, Rough ER, Golgi (packages and ships the proteins out)
What is the function of tRNA
The RNA molecule that transfers amino acids to ribosomes during protein synthesis
Protein Synthesis- Extensive
The process in which amino acids are arranged in a linear sequence through the processes of transcription of DNA and to RNA and the translation of RNA to a polypeptide chain.
What is Protein Synthesis?
The process of making proteins
