A committee established during the French revolution to identify enemies of the republic. It accomplished this by having anyone suspected crimes against the state arrested and executed.
Girondins
A moderate republican faction active in the French Revolution from 1791 to 1793. They were turned on and executed by the Reign of Terror.
Thermidorian Reaction
A reaction to the violence of the Reign of Terror in 1794, resulting in the execution of Robespierre and the loosening of economic controls.
