Relative risk
What is meant by a 'confirmed case' of cryptosporidiosis?
An individual shows signs and symptoms of cryptosporidiosis and Oocysts detected in faeces
What does the relative risk value mean?
If the relative risk calculated was (44%) it means their risk of developing the illness is (44) times more
How is relative risk (RR) calculated?
Incidence rate of disease in those exposed to risk factor ÷ incidence rate of disease in those not exposed to risk factor
What's an isolate case?
Presence of pathogens but no signs and symptoms
How would you interpret the results of a relative risk calculation?
RR = 1 - risk of illness is same in exposed and non exposed population RR > 1 - risk is greater in exposed population RR < 1 - risk is greater in non exposed population
What is relative risk?
Ratio between incidence of a disease in members of population exposed to possible risk factor and incidence in non-exposed individuals
What is epidemiology?
The occurrence, distribution and control of disease in populations
What is a suspect case?
When an individual had signs and symptoms but pathogen presence is not confirmed
