Temperature throughout the year
During the winter, the temperature can get as low as 30° F and the summers can get up to 100° F. The average temperature in the chaparral biome is 64° F. Chaparral is found in regions with a climate similar to that of the Mediterranean area, characterized by hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters.
Vegetation
vegetation composed of broad-leaved evergreen shrubs, bushes, and small trees usually less than 2.5 m (about 8 feet) tall; together they often form dense thickets.
Rainfall throughout the year Deciduous Forest
- second rainiest biome. Average yearly precipitation 30-60 inches. Precipitation falls throughout the year but the winter is snow
Biomes
A major regional complex of similar plant communities; a large ecological unit defined by its dominant plant type and vegetation structure
Vegetation tropical rainforest
A tropical rain forest has more kinds of trees than any other area in the world. Scientists have counted about 100 to 300 species in one 2 1/2-acre (1-hectare) area in South America. Seventy percent of the plants in the rainforest are trees. About 1/4 of all the medicines we use come from rainforest plants
Climate Diagrams/Climatographs:
A visual representation of a region's average monthly temperature and precipitation. Also known as a climatograph
tropical rain forest rainfall throughout the year
An average of 50 to 260 inches (125 to 660 cm.) of rain falls yearly. rainfall is often more than 100 inches a year. There is usually a brief season of less rain
decidious forest temp
Average temperature 50 F. Experience fairly stable precipitation but temperatures that vary with the seasons.
Vegetation temp rainforest
Big coniferous trees dominate this habitat, including Douglas fir and Western red cedar, Mountain hemlock, Western hemlock, Sit a spruce and Lodgepole pine. In addition, a number of deciduous trees are found here, particularly in warmer spots. One of these is Big-Leaf Maple. In addition to the trees, mosses and lichens are very common, often growing as epiphytes. Epiphytes are also common in tropical rain forests; the common denominator is the moist environment that puts minimal water stress on plants without roots
Which Biome does GA have
Deciduous forest
desert vegetation
Desert environments are so dry that they support only extremely sparse vegetation; trees are usually absent and, under normal climatic conditions, shrubs or herbaceous plants provide only very incomplete ground cove
Desert rainfall
Generally, a desert is defined as an area that receives less than 10 inches, or 25 centimeters, of precipitation a year. Although most of us think of deserts as places that do not get much rain, the precipitation received in deserts can be in the form of either rain or snow.
Community
In ecology, an assemblage of populations of interacting organisms that live in the same area at the same time.
Rainfall borreal
Precipitation takes place in two forms in the taiga biome: snow and rain. Precipitation falls in the form of snow during winter months; the annual precipitation being 20 to 40 inches (50 to 101 cm). Rainfall in the taiga biome typically occurs in the moist summer, registering an average annual rainfall of 10 to 20 inches (25 to 50 cm). This brings the average precipitation in this biome to approximately 40 inches (101cm).
Vegetation Borreal
Since the climate of taiga biome is extremely cold, there are only a few verities of plants. Coniferous tree with cones are the most dominant tree species in this biome. There are four dominant kinds of conifers here; spruce, evergreen, pine, and fir. The fourth dominant coniferous tree in the taiga is a deciduous tree known as tamarack. Under specific conditions, broad-leafed trees like aspen and birch have developed ability to endure the harsh conditions in this biome.
Temp for temperate rainforests
Temperate rainforests have four seasons with a distinct winter. the temperature goes up fairly significantly in the months between April and September, the spring and summer time, while the temperature is at it's lowest between the months of October and March, the fall and winter.
Rainfall tundra
The arctic tundra receives approximately 15 to 25 cm (6 to 10 inches) of precipitation each year, which includes both rainfall/snowfall and melting snow and ice. Alpine tundra typically receives slightly higher amounts of yearly precipitation, around 30 cm (almost 12 inches).
Rainfall Chaparral
The average rainfall is 10 to 17 inches a year
Temperature borreal
The average temperature in the taiga biome is below freezing point for half of the year. During winter, temperatures range between -54 to -1 degrees Celsius (-65 to 30 degrees Fahrenheit). Winters are freezing with a lot of snow. In the summer, the temperature range plummets to -7 degrees Celsius (20 degrees Fahrenheit). The highest temperature in summer might be 21 degrees Celsius (70 degrees Fahrenheit). The summer months in the taiga biome are typically warm, rainy and humid. Also, the summers are short and experience 50 to 100 days without frost
temp tropical rain forest throughout the year
The average temperature in tropical rainforests ranges from 70 to 85°F (21 to 30°C). The environment is pretty wet in tropical rainforests, maintaining a high humidity of 77% to 88% year-round.
Historical events chapall
The fires that commonly occur during this period are necessary for the germination of many shrub seeds and also serve to clear away dense ground cover, thus maintaining the shrubby growth form of the vegetation by preventing the spread of trees. Chaparral returns to its prefire density within about 10 years but may become grassland by too frequent burning.
Temperate grassland Vegetation
The predominant vegetation in this biome consists of grass and/or shrubs. Historical events
temp savanna
The savanna climate has a temperature range of 68° to 86° F (20° - 30° C). In the winter, it is usually about 68° to 78° F (20° - 25° C). In the summer the temperature ranges from 78° to 86° F (25° - 30° C). In a Savanna the temperature does not change a lot.
Temperate deciduous forest-
a biome that is always changing. It has four distinct seasons: winter, spring, summer and fall. Winters are cold and summers are warm. Temperate deciduous forests get between 30 and 60 inches of precipitation a year. Precipitation in this biome happens year round. Because the soil is very fertile and hardwood trees are good for building, this biome has some of the world's largest population centers in it.
QTNA: By what factors are aquatic systems(biomes) shaped by? Terrestrial?
are influenced by a series of abiotic factors. The aquatic medium—water— has different physical and chemical properties than air, however. Even if the water in a pond or other body of water is perfectly clear (there are no suspended particles), water, on its own, absorbs light
Temperate Grassland
cover one fourth of the Earth's land and can be found on every continent, except for Antarctica. Grasslands occur where it is too wet for deserts but too dry for forests. Grasslands get about 10 to 24 inches of precipitation per year, although some tropical grasslands can get over 40 inches of rain a year.
Vegetation Dec Forest
have a great variety of plant species. Most have three levels of plants. Lichen, moss, ferns, wildflowers and other small plants can be found on the forest floor. Shrubs fill in the middle level and hardwood trees like maple, oak, birch, magnolia, sweet gum and beech make up the third level. Conifers like spruce, fir and pine trees can also be found mixed in with the hardwood trees in this biome. Sometimes the taiga and the temperate deciduous forest overlap.
temp in temperate grasslands
hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Temperatures in temperate grasslands vary according to the season. In winter, temperatures can plummet to well below 0 degrees Fahrenheit in some areas. In summer, temperatures can reach above 90 degrees Fahrenheit
tropical rainforest
hot, moist biome found near Earth's equator. The world's largest tropical rainforests are in South America, Africa, and Southeast Asia. Tropical rainforests receive from 60 to 160 inches of precipitation that is fairly evenly distributed throughout the year.
Chaparral
is a shrubland or heathland plant community found primarily in the US state of California and in the northern portion of the Baja California Peninsula, Mexico. It is shaped by a Mediterranean climate (mild, wet winters and hot dry summers) and wildfire, featuring summer-drought-tolerant plants with hard sclerophyllous evergreen leaves, as contrasted with the associated soft-leaved, drought-deciduous, scrub community of coastal sage scrub, found below the chaparral biome. Chaparral covers 5% of the state of California
Temperate rainforest rainfall
is at least 200 cm (78.74 in) and can go up to 350 cm (137.79 in) The amount of precipitation per month fluctuates greatly between the seasons. In the spring and summer (April-August) the rainfall per month is at it's lowest, and in September the rainfall starts to rise, and by November and December the rainfall per month is at it's absolute highest.
vegetation tundra
is composed of dwarf shrubs, sedges and grasses, mosses, and lichens. Scattered trees grow in some tundra regions. The ecotone (or ecological boundary region) between the tundra and the forest is known as the tree line or timberline
rainfall in temperate grasslands
receive low to moderate precipitation on average per year (20-35 inches). Temperate grasslands receive 20 to 35 inches of rain a year. While seasonal droughts play less of a role in this biome than tropical savannas, rain usually falls seasonally, mostly in late spring and early summer
Temp in tundra
s the world's coldest and driest biomes. The average annual temperature is -18° F (-28° C). Nights can last for weeks when the sun barely rises during some months in the winter, and the temperature can drop to -94° F (-70° C)
temp desert
surfaces receive a little more than twice the solar radiation received by humid regions and lose almost twice as much heat at night. Many mean annual temperatures range from 20-25° C. The extreme maximum ranges from 43.5-49° C. Minimum temperatures sometimes drop to -18° C.
vegetation savanna
vegetation type that grows under hot, seasonally dry climatic conditions and is characterized by an open tree canopy (i.e., scattered trees) above a continuous tall grass understory (the vegetation layer between the forest canopy and the ground).
