The first Beta house, possibly first fraternity house ever, was at Hampden-Syndey College by the Zeta Chapter in 1850

Saving the Michigan Chapter

14 members of the Michigan Lambda chapter plotted to leave Beta and join Psi Upsilon. However, one, Edward Boudinot, fought to keep the chapter alive as the rest abandoned Beta. The following year, more came to revive the almost destroyed chapter.

What is the great story of John Holt Duncan?

First President of Beta, served in the Confederate Army and during at battle nearing Joplin, Duncan lost his leg "gallantly charging the enemy". A union family harbored him while he was recovering but was soon discovered. The farmer was murdered and Duncan was spared due to the widow and the farmer's son. Duncan went on to support the widow and educate the child while living a destitute life.

In 1883, a house on Lake Erie is used as a club house and vacation home for Beta's and family. The 1893 depression caused abondonment and in 1901 lightning burnt the house down

What is the John Gray Story?

John Gray died of cholera in 1856, and the Betas of Hanover College protect the monument they erected on his grave for a full month. After, John Gray's father, Daniel L. Gray, is honored by the respect and asks to join the Iota Chapter of Beta and becomes roll number 21.

Michigan Chapter Lambda receives the formal recognition of a University

Joel Allan Battle

Roll #95 of Alpha Chapter, served in the Confederate Army. Wrote a classic Beta story about brotherhood with John Calvin Lewis. Lewis buried Battle after dying in Battle. "Laid to rest by his brothers, his Beta brothers in blue."
