Rate that relates to the size or character of the shipment.

Unit Train Rates

Rates provided for movements between an origin and destination in order to avoid terminal and intermediate switching and handling.

Loading Allowance

Reduced rate or discount granted to the shipper that load LTL shipments into a carrier's vehicle.

Menu Pricing

Shipper can pick and choose those services the carrier should perform and the shipper is charged accordingly.

Per Car and Per Truckload Rates

Single charge rates for a specific origin to destination moves regardless of shipment commodity or weight.

Joint Rates

Single rates published from a point on one carrier's route to another carrier's destination. They are usually lower in total charges than the combination of the local rates because of through-movement economy.

Per Mile Rates

Some rail, motor, and air carrier provide rates that are based purely upon the mileage involved.

LTL/TL Rates

TL shipments have lower rates than LTL because LTL requires more handling.

Differential Rates

a rate published by a carrier that faces a service time disadvantage compared to a faster carrier or mode.

Terminal to Terminal Rates

Two Way or Three Way rates

Local Rates

Apply to any rate between two points served by the same carrier. Include full-cost factors for pickup, documentation, rating, billing, and delivery.

Blanket or Group Rates

Apply to or form whole regions, rather than points.

Released Value Rates

Are lower than the regular full value rates that provide up to total value carrier compensation in the event of loss or damage

Empty Haul Rates

A charge for moving empty rail or motor equipment that is owned or leased by a particular shipper.

Corporate Volume Rates

A discount for each LTL shipment that is related to the total volume of LTL shipments that a firm ships via a specific carrier from all shipping points

Contract Rates

A reduced rate in exchange for a guarantee of a certain minimum tonnage to be shipped over a specific period

Aggregate Tender Rates

A reduced rate or discount given to the shipper that tenders two or more class related shipments to the carrier at one time

Fake Rates

All commodity rates or freight all kinds; expressed in cents per hundredweight or total cost per shipment.

Proportional Rates

Lower than the regular local rate; applies only to thorough moves to certain destination points beyond its line.

Spot market rates

can be used to facilitate the movement of the equipment or product
