Patient education for a mammography
Mammography is an x-ray taken of the breast to detect early signs of breast cancer. - You will have to undress above the waist and will be provided a drape to cover yourself - You and a technologist are the only ones in a room who is helping you position your breasts for the mammogram. - In order to get a good scan, the individual breast has to be flattened on the machine's plate, only for a few seconds. Once the scan is done you will have to change positions for each of the next pictures taken (takes about 20 minutes) - There might be some discomfort (some individuals feel pain) Tell the technologist if it hurts. - Two views of each breast are taken for a screening mammogram. But for some women, such as those with breast implants or large breasts, more pictures may be needed. https://www.cancer.org/cancer/breast-cancer/screening-tests-and-early-detection/mammograms/mammograms-what-to-know-before-you-go.html
