What is the difference between a personal trainer and a certified athletic trainer?

They are primarily concerned with developing fitness and wellness programs and improving the levels of physical conditioning in a healthy population. The certified athletic trainer is a highly educated allied health care professional responsible for the prevention, evaluation, rehabilitation and management of injuries related to physical activity.
