The Art of Argument 3
Irrelevant Goals or Functions
Arguments that distract by measuring a plan or policy according to goals it wasn't intended to achieve.
Red Herrings
Arguments that make a more subtle appeal to emotion, but include types of proofs that are irrelevant to the case at hand.
straw man fallacy
arguments that attempt to disprove an opponents position by presenting it in an unfair , inaccurate light ex. Person A: The children's winter concert at the school should include non-Christmas songs too. Person B: You won't be happy until Christmas songs are banned from being played on the radio!
Appeal to Ignorance
arguments that claim that since a proposition cannot be disproven, it must therefore be true or likely ex. You can't prove that you are innocent, therefore you are guilty to me
Irrelevent Thesis
arguments that distract by making a case for the wrong point ex. "The courts have not allowed the teaching of creation to be mandated in schools. This shows that evolution is science and creation is not."
