vasovasostomy
Anastomosis of the ends of the vas deferens as a means of reconnecting them to reverse the sterilization procedure.
transurethral incision of the prostate (TUIP)
Form of prostate surgery involving tiny incisions of the prostate. The prostate is not removed.
vasectomy
Incision, ligation, and cauterization of both of the vas deferens for the purpose of male sterilization.
sterilization
Process of rendering a male or female unable to conceive a child while retaining gonads.
hydrocelectomy
Removal of a hydrocele.
castration
Removal of both gonads in the male or the female.
orchidectomy
Removal of one or both testicles.
prostatectomy
Removal of the prostate gland. If termed a radical prostatectomy, the seminal vesicles and area of vas ampullae of the vas deferens are also removed.
transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP)
Removal of the prostate in sections through a urethral approach. This procedure is the most common type of prostatectomy.
ablation
Removal of tissue by surgery, chemical destruction, cryoprobe, electrocautery, or radiofrequency energy.
circumcision
Surgical procedure in which the prepuce of the penis (or that of the clitoris of the female) is excised.
orchiopexy
Surgical procedure to mobilize an undescended testicle, attaching it to the scrotum.
