Straight Line

The shortest distance between two points.

Pencils

They come in different grades of hardness indicated by numbers and letters.

Straight angle

an angle whose measure is 180 degree.

Right angle

an angle whose measure is 90 degree.

Plane

an imaginary flat surface that has length and width but no thickness. It may extend indefinitely in any direction.

Eye level

an imaginary horizontal plane which is in level with the observer's eye and the horizon.

Reference line

an irregular fine curved line with an arrowhead of one end used to label the parts of an object.

Alphabet of lines

are lines used in drafting to identify the types of line. They have the same relation to drawing as letters do to words.

Extension line

composed of long, equal dashes about 7 mm to 4 cm long and with gaps for about 1 to 2 mm, extension lines are used to indicate the extent of a measurement given by dimension line that is locates by outside the view.

Dropline

horizontal guideline drawn for letter with strokes that extend downward known as the descender.

Baseline

horizontal guideline where all the letters rest or stand

Dimension drawing

indicates the shape and size of an object which helps in executing the drawing with less effort.

Center line

is the lightest or finest line in a drawing used to show the center of the object. These thin broken lines indicate the axes of symmetrical objects or features, circles, and path of motion.

Sketching

it is the most basic form of expression for drafting beginners, for them to be able to present their ideas to those whom they are communicating in a comprehensive manner.

Orthographic Drawing

its is the method of representing the exact size and shape of an object into two or more views on planes generally at right angle to each other by extending perpendicular from the object of the plane.

Compressed or Condensed Letters

letters that are narrow than normal. Used when the space is limited.

Normal letters

letters that are neither too narrow nor too wide and have the same height, and used when the space for lettering is adequate.

Extended letters

letters that are wider than normal letters and used when the space to be is wider than normal.

Boldface

letters with heavy stems

Lightface

letters with thin stems

Location dimension

locates a feature of an object.

Depth

measurement from front to rear of an object.

Width

measurement of an object taken from side to side of an object.

Height

measurement taken from top to bottom of an object.

Oblique drawing

one surface of the object is parallel to the picture plane.

Angles

refers to a figure formed by two rays with common end point.

Perspective drawing

representation of an object as it appears to an observer stationed at a particular position relative to the object.

Pictorial drawing

represents a portion of an object and shows the method of its construction.

Visible line or Object line

represents the visible edges of an object.

Size dimension

tells how large or small an object is

Center of vision

the intersection of the ground and the picture plane.

Ground line

the intersection of the ground plane with the picture plane.

Horizon line

the intersection of the horizon plane and the picture plane.

Axis of vision

the line through the station point that is perpendicular to the picture plane.

Station point

the observer's eye, not the point on the ground where the observer stand.

Vanishing point

the point where all lines seem to meet.

Horizon

the point where the figure appears horizontally at eye level.

Isometric drawing

the size is equal to the measurement of the size of an orthographic view.

Break line

this is a medium line used to break an object when it is too large to get on the drawing paper.

Picture plane

this is an imaginary vertical plane where the perspective view is assumed or imagined to be protected.

Dimension line

this line is used to indicate the measurements of an object.

Limiting line

this line is used to limit the length of an elongated object so that it can be shown without changing the size of its view.

Horizontal plane

this shows the appearance of the object as if viewed directly above.

Frontal plane

this shows the shape of an object to be drawn or projected on to a plane.

Profile plane

this shows the shape of an object when viewed from the side.

Cap line

uppermost horizontal guideline drawn for uppercase letters and letters with strokes that extend upward known as the ascender.

Hidden line or invisible line

used to represent the hidden edges of an object. It is made of short dashes that are about 1/8-inch spaces apart.

Cavalier drawing

with receding lines drawn at 45 degrees and are measure in their dimension.

Cabinet drawing

with receding lines foreshortened one half their actual size.

Parallel Line

Are lines on the same plane which will not meet no matter what how long you extend them.

Perpendicular Line

Are two intersecting lines form right angles.

Freehand Drawing or Sketching

A drawing that is done with the use of precision drawing instruments like T-square, triangles, compass scale.

Technical drawing

A drawing that is used to show the material, dimension, and shape of a product.

Line

A portion of the line between two distinct points.

Divider

A tool that is used for dividing lines into any equal parts and transferring measurements and spacing points or lines

Gothic Letters

All letters composed of uniform width.

T-square

It is used for drawing horizontal lines and serves as guide for triangles when drawing other kinds of lines.

Triangles

It is used for drawing vertical and oblique lines.

Protractor

It is used for measuring and laying out arcs of circle as well as angles that cannot be measured by either of the triangles.

Eraser

It is used to remove smears, pencil, or ink lines on a drawing.

Roman

Letters All letters having accented strokes which are made up of thick and thin elements.

Italic Letters

Letters that are all slanting and inclined letters. The inclination is an angle of 67.5 degree with the horizontal guide line.

Script Letters

Letters that are composed of script elements. This are commonly used in wedding invitations, diplomas, certificates and greeting card.

Orthographic drawing

Method of representing the exact shapes of an object into two or more views on lanes generally at right angles to each other.

Drawing

The international language of the industry.

French Curve

A curve ruler used to draw curves except circle and arcs.

Text Letters

This includes all style of old English text, church text, whose elements are made with style C or D speedball pens.

Leader line

a fine broken line with an arrowhead at one end that has a short line and an inclined drawn at any convenient angle.

Cutting plane line

a heavy broken line drawn across an object used to display the sectional view. It has arrowheads which tell the direction in which the section is to be seen.
