That is, they are parallel but point in the opposite directions 4. The vector product of two vectors u×v is oriented perpendicular to the plane containing u and v

A position vector is a vector that starts at the origin and end at a designated point → The components of a position vector are the coordinates of the point they are associated with.

Is addition of vectors commutative?

Addition of vectors is commutative: v+w = w+v

The vector equation of a line is not unique. We could have any other two points on the line so that the actual values of a and b would have been different. However their combination does describe one and only one line.

They have one point in common, the point of intersection, and in 2D non-parallel lines always intersect

This happens in 3D but not in 2D. The two lines exists in two separate planes. They are not parallel but do not share a single point and so do not intersect, even if their directions are different.

What can be said if two vectors are parallel, in terms of their scalar multiple?

Two vectors are parallel if and only if they are a scalar multiple of each other. For k>0 they point in the same direction and for k<0 they point in opposite directions. If this is true then v×w = |v||w|
