Central Idea/Main Idea

Theme

Is the lesson or message or moral of the story/narrative. More than three words (found in fictional text). A message about life or human nature that the writer shares with the reader. In many cases, readers must infer the writer's message because it is hidden.

Topic

One to three words. It is simply what the story is about. (Examples: Friendship, trust, empathy etc.)

What is this? Everyone can find forgiveness through hard times.

Theme

Supporting Details

These are facts, information, examples, etc. that help give the reader a full understanding of the central/main idea (the theme of a text). They will clarify, explain, and describe the main idea so the reader understands it fully. The author should have 3 or more supporting details.

Central Idea /Main Idea

This is what the text is mostly about. The focus of the text, the overall idea. It is the author's main point. (When you research you can create what central idea to focus on).
