Protocols
A collection of rules for formatting, ordering, and error-checking data sent across a network
Filter
A feature in an email program that examines the content of an email message and then moves that email message into a speific folder or deletes it automatically based on the content of the message
Read-Only
A file whose contents you can view (read) but that you cannot change
Queue
A folder or file location in an email program in which messages are temporarily stored prior to being sent
Mozilla Thunderbird
A free email program that is available as part of the Mozilla open source project
Emoticon
A group of keyboard characters that when viewed together represent a human expression; used in email and other electronic correspondence to convey humor or emotion
Internet Message Access Protocol
A protocol for retrieving email messages from a remote mail server or messages that are stored on a large local network
Multipurpose Internet Email Extension
A protocol specifying how to encode nontext data, such as graphics and sound, so you can send it over the Internet
Group or Category
An address book entry in an email program or Webmail provider consisting of two or more email address
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol
An internet protocol that determines which path an outgoing email message takes on the internet
Post Office Protocol
An internet protocol that handles incoming email messages
Message header
The part of an email containing information about message's sender, recipients and subject
Netiquette
The set of commonly accepted rules that represent proper behavior on a network
Junk Mail or Spam
Unsolicited email messages sent to large numbers of people to promote products, services and in some cases, illegal or illicit items or services
Mail Server
When you send an email message, the message is sent
