Presidential

A form of government in which the executive and legislative branches are separate, independent, and coequal.

Theocracy

A government in which the society is ruled by religious leaders.

Republic

A government where citizens rule through elected representatives.

Despotism

A government where the ruler has unlimited power; dictatorship

Military State

A place in which a ruler keeps power through the military

Absolute Monarchy

A political system in which a country is ruled by a monarch (king or queen), who has total control.

Representative Democracy

A system of government in which citizens elect representatives, or leaders, to make decisions about the laws for all the people.

Socialism

Economic and political system in which society as a whole, rather than private individuals, own all property and operate all businesses.

Constitutional Monarchy

Government in which a king or queen is the official head of state, but elected officials run the government. Monarch has very little actual power.

Direct Democracy

Government in which citizens vote on laws and select officials directly

Dictatorship

One person holds all power (dictator). Usually this person is backed by the military.

Anarchy

The absence of any governmental authority leading to disorder or confusion

Monarchy

The government with a king or a queen. Two types of monarchy: (1) constitutional and (2) absolute.

Democracy

The people hold the power to rule. The people meet to make all the decisions. Two types of democracy: (1) direct and (2) representative.

Oligarchy

The power is held by a small group of people; Usually this is an elite group.

communism

The system of government in which the government plans and controls the economy and a single party holds the power. Strives to make everyone equal.

Totalitarianism

a form of government in which the ruler is an absolute dictator (not restricted by a constitution or laws or opposition etc.)

Aristocracy

a government in which power is in the hands of a hereditary ruling class or nobility; a form of oligarchy

Feudalism

a political system and a social system where by a powerful lord would offer "protection" in return for "service"

Fascism

a political system headed by a dictator that calls for extreme nationalism and racism and no tolerance of opposition

Federal

a system of government in which the national and state governments share power

Transitional Government

an emergency or temporary government set up after the collapse or defeat of the former government; these governments are unelected and are often unstable, featuring alliances between some groups and/or competition with other groups for power

Autocracy

government by one person having unlimited power; dictatorship

Authoritarian Rule

government controls every aspect of life; dictatorship.

Parliamentary

government where people vote for representatives; the POLITICAL PARTY in control picks their PRIME MINISTER (Head Executive)
