a clause that acts as an adjective, noun, or verb. It does not express a complete thought
nonrestrictive clause
a clause that provides descriptive information that isn't essential to the meaning of the sentence
restrictive clause
a clause that provides essential information about the subject of a sentence
Adverb clauses
a subordinate clause that functions as an adverb.
antecedent
a word for which a pronoun is substituted to avoid repetition
intensive pronoun
aren't essential to a sentence's basic meaning, intensifies meaning
Adjective clauses
dependent clauses, the introductory word of the adjective clause makes it dependent upon the main clause
Noun clauses
dependent, or subordinate, clauses (when, where, why, how, who, whom, what, which, whose, if/whether, that)
elliptical
having an incomplete grammatical construction
compound personal
pronoun that intensifies meaning or refers to the subject
demonstrative pronoun
pronoun that points something out
indefinite pronoun
pronoun that refers to unknown people or things
reflexive pronoun
the object of a sentence is the same as the subject
