270 electors needed to win the presidency and 538 total electors / Electors are earned by the canidate who recieves the most votes in a particular wins that states electors.

Impact of the "winner take all system" on elections
Makes it so that it really comes down to the swing stats that determine the president, it can also negativly make it that a canidate can win the election but not have the majority vote.
How democratic is the electoral college
The electoral college is not very democratic because the canidate that wins the most amount of votes could lose the electoral college and not become president.
Purpose of the electoral college
To elect the president, and to give every state a say in electing the president.
Swing states
any state that could reasonably be won by either the Democratic or Republican president, states that you could not label liberal or conservative these states are usually independent. They tend to chose a canidate based off of who they like and not wether thet are a dempcrat or conservative. ex: Ohio and Pennsylvania
