Unit 5 Introduction to Forces
Normal Force
Push due to contact with a surface such as the ground. Always acts perpendicular to the surface.
Tension Force
Push due to contact with a surface such as the ground. Always acts perpendicular to the surface.
drag or air resistance
Resistance due to moving through air.
Friction Force
Surface resistance.
Thrust or Force Applied
Actively pushing off air (Often generated by a helicopter with spinning blades or a rocket burning fuel).
Acceleration
Describes an object's change in velocity each second.
Distance / Displacement
Describes how far an object moved.
Weight
Gravitational Pull of the earth
Mass
How much stuff (protons, neutrons & electrons) an object is made of.
