The International Court of Justice decides disputes between countries, based on the voluntary participation of the States concerned. If a State agrees to participate in proceeding, it is obligated to comply with the Court's decision.The Court also gives advisory opinions to the United Nations and its specialized agencies.

What does the Secretariat do?
The Secretariat carries out the substantive and administrative work of the United Nations as directed by the General Assembly, the Security Council, and the other organs.
Why was the Trusteeship Council established?
The Trusteeship Council was established to provide international supervision for 11 Trust Territories administered by 7 Member States and ensure adequate steps taken to prepare the Territories for self-government or independence, either as separate states or by joining neighboring independent countries.
Who is the head of the Secretariat and what do they do? Who is the present head and who did he replace? How do they play an important role in peacemaking?
The head secretariat was Secretary General Koli Annan, and he was replaced by Ban Ki Moon. It does all the administrative work.

By 1994, all the Trust Territories had attained self-government. Consist of the five permanent members of the Security Council. They meet when the occasion may require.

By signing the UN Charter, all member states are obligated to carry out the Council's decisions.

Some 130 countries have voluntarily provided more than 1 million military and civilian police personnel who have served, along with thousands of civilians, and police officers.

They also make policy recommendations.
The General Assembly cannot force action, but it can do what?
They can recommend important indications of the world opinion and represents the moral authority of the community of nations.

They have 54 members elected by the GA for 3 year terms.
What was the U.N. reaction to 9/11/01?
They recognized this attack wasn't humane, and they brought the people involved would be brought to justice.
Who does the Economic, and Social Council talk to?
They talk to non government people. They're making a vital link between the UN and civil society.
