Universal suffrage → The right of everyone to vote for the government of their choice.

What is a relevant case?

Vernon → voted in as alderman, achieved by votes of two married women. Ogden petitioned the Supreme Court that Vernon's victory was invalid due to two illegal votes. Vernon's barrister argued since the women were on the electoral role they were entitled to vote. Decision: A woman was not a person at law → not entitled to vote. If she is married before the election she is subject to the disabilities attached to married women → not entitled to vote.
