Week 10 & 13 Tutorial
Methods of AI development
-Hard-coded or script task behaviour -bio-(human)-inspired computational & dynamical models -machine learning
Types of machine learning
-supervised machine learning -unsupervised machine learning -reinforcement learning
What do stereotype-relevant situations place targets in?
An uncomfortable predicament that can lead to poorer performance outcomes.
Supervised machine learning
Algorithms that learn by modelling the relationship between input data to desired (labelled or coded) output data
Unsupervised machine learning
Algorithms that learn to identify patterns in uncoded or labelled data
Reinforcement learning
Algorithms that learn to respond to data in ways that maximise received rewards
What does deep learning do?
Employ multilayer (deep) Artificial Neural Networks to model the relationships uncovered using supervised, unsupervised, & reinforcement machine learning techniques
Does a person have to believe in a stereotype to be affected by it?
No
System Justification theory
Psychological process by which existing social arrangements are legitimized, even at the expense of personal & group interests
Stereotype Threat
being at risk of confirming, as self-characteristic, a negative stereotype about one's group
