Mandatory Traffic Signs
As the title suggests, this set of road traffic signs are obligatory for drivers to follow. ... Mandatory Road signs are generally round in shape with red border. Some of them are blue in color. 'Stop' and 'Give Way' are octagon and triangular, respectively, in shape. Violation of these signs attracts heavy fines and punishments.
Brown signs
Brown traffic signs indicate nearby recreational and cultural interest sites. A sign showing a nearby state park is an example of a traffic sign with a brown background.
Cautionary Traffic Signs.
Caution sign indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, may result in minor or moderate injury. Caution signs are used in areas where potential injury or equipment damage is possible, or to caution against unsafe practices. Yellow signs
General warning danger/caution.
Green Signs
Indicates traffic movement such as turns which are permitted or directional guidance.
Informative Signs.
Informational signs provide necessary instruction that can educate, direct, assist, and warn. Since informational signage is often connected to public safety and code requirements, it is vitally important that informational signage is printed and manufactured in a format that is easy to read and understand.
Orange signs
Orange signs indicate construction or road maintenance are ahead.
Red signs
Red generally means stop. The use of red on signs is limited to stop, yield, and prohibition signs.
White signs
Regulatory. Black and white: Posted regulations (i.e., speed limits) are seen on black and white road signs. Regulatory signs tell you what you can and can't do on the road. Some signs show maximum and minimum speed limits for all types of vehicles on freeways and limited access highways.

What is the difference between a highway and interstate?
The main difference between a highway and an interstate is access. Unlike highways which are controlled-access or limited access roadways, interstates are restricted access roadways that go across state boundaries to connect different states.
