a. A virtual desktop is a way that allows you to organize and access groups of windows for multiple purposes. This function is extremely convenient for school, work, or entertainment in that it makes it simple to work on multiple tasks at once. When it comes to entertainment this is helpful for having multiple social media accounts open.

6. Describe why it might be more efficient to use the search box in File Explorer than the search box on the taskbar to look for a file.

a. By searching for a file on the taskbar you can only filter the results by type of file, but when you search for files in file explorer you are able to search the contents of a specific folder or even search an entire drive.

12. Describe the types of files that can be removed with Disk Cleanup.

a. By using disk cleanup you can remove small plug-ins, temporary files that were created when using the internet, or any unnecessary files.

7. You want to delete several files, but the files are not consecutively listed in File Explorer. Describe two different methods you could use to select and delete them.

a. Click on the first file/folder, and press and hold the Ctrl button while clicking on all the desire non-adjacent files/folders, then releasing the Ctrl button when you have finished selecting the files/folders you want. From here you can delete. b. Select the first file, then press and hold the Shift button, and then click the last file to select adjacent files. All the consecutive files will be highlighted, and this is the time where you can delete.

a. Cortana is able to offer assistance with things such as reminders or calendar tasks. I would specifically use the Cortana Notebook to help remind me of school assignments I have put in my calendar, and possibly to even help me find restaurants on my days off.

a. Cortana is an excellent tool that can help with support on Windows 10.

10. Describe why you might use File History, and how it differs from other restore applications.

a. I would use File History in case I accidentally delete a file. File History is different from other restore applications in that once you begin the restore process, you are able to browse to a specific file or folder and view all various of the selected folder/file.

11. Describe the utilities you would use to monitor and manage computer resources, such as the CPU and RAM.

a. I would use the monitor system resources in order to view how RAM is being used on my computer by clicking the memory tab. I would also be able to use the monitor system resources in order to check on the CPU. I can do this by going to memory and seeing how my actions affect the utilization.

8. Explain at least two circumstances in which file compression would be useful.

a. Since a compressed file saves space I would use it to compress a file of pictures to email to family. b. I would also use file compression to zip multiple files together into a single compressed folder in order to email myself some of my school work.

a. The Ribbon: i. Has tabs and commands that are relevant to the item you currently selected. b. Back, forward, and up navigation arrows: i. Allows you to visit previously opened folders. The Up command allows you to open the parent folder for the current location. c. Address bar: i. Allows you to navigate to other folders that are in file explorer. d. Search box: i. Type descriptive text in order to find files and folders. e. Navigation plane: i. Contains quick access, OneDrive, this pc, and network. In order to display the contents or to manage files housed within a folder simply click the arrow next to any of the groups. f. Quick access i. Provides access to those files and folders that you use the most. g. File list i. Shows the contents that are in the currently selected folder or storage location. h. Details pane i. Shows the properties of a file or folder, such as the author name and when the file was last modified. To access you must click the view tab and then click the details pane in the panes group. i. Preview pane i. Provides a snapshot of a selected files contents (not of a folder). This can be viewed by clicking the view tab and then clicking preview pane in the panes group.

a. The action center provides important status information, such as the detection of new devices, the availability of software updates, or recommended maintenance and security tasks.

a. The start menu has many features including access to file explorer, settings, power, and all apps. This is also where you'll see the most used program list and where you can customize a group of tiles to have your favorite programs at easy access for you.

notification area

an area on the far right of the taskbar that includes the clock and a group of icons that relate to the status of a setting or program.

short cut
