a nixon advisor once said

The Nixon campaign in 1968, and the Nixon White House after that, had two enemies: the antiwar left in the Black people. Do you understand what I'm saying? We knew we couldn't make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but I getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and the blacks with heroin and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We can rest their leaders, read their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify the night after night on the evening news. Did we know that we were lying about the problem? of course we did.

1994 federal crime bill- clinton

a 30 billion dollar act that was heavily loaded towards law-enforcement incarceration and is responsible for A massive expansion of the prison system and created the infrastructure which allowed police to abuse power with overdone funding and aggression. 100,000 police officers were put on the street with insane militarization in every department with swat teams.

baby boomers COMMITED MANY CRIMES, but these were pined largely on the civil rights movment

"super predator" described the generation of poor, fatherless, and jobless

beasts that needed to be controlled. when they see us. at this point black people were CRIMINALIZED even to their own community. Bush won election by emphasizing the violent actions of a black man and promised to be strict on criminals

THIS WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DESTRUCTION OF BLACK FAMILIES

black men were being put away for life and were no longer fathers, this absence and destruction of the family furthered problems in the black community immensely MASS INCARSERATION

the emergence of crack cocaine is a largely black drug that was marketed inexpensivly and in small doses YET

cocaine (which was found with primarily white ppl) was less punishable then the possession of crack (mostly in the black community). the punishment for 1 ounce of crack was equivalent to the punishment for 100 ounces of powdered cocaine

SB1070

have police the right to stop ANYONE they thought looked like an immigrant. it filled immigration detention facilities and it directly benefited an ALEC member, CCA.

incarceration for 1/3 black man

someone convicted

is unable to get food stamps, jobs, student loans or the right to vote. their own ******** CITIZENSHIP

mandatory minimums and truth in sentencing- clinton

judges could no longer consider the circumstances around a crime and were forced to impose a mandatory sentence. So now judges who are trying to dispense justice on a daily basis are unable to do so and I'm taking discretion away from the judges, arguably the most neutral party in the court, and are giving it over to prosecutors. 95% of the elected prosecutors throughout the US are white. truth in sentencing took away parole and insured those sentenced served at least 85% of their sentence

INTERRACIAL RAPE

occurs more highly with white men against black woman than it occurs between black men to white woman

southern strategy

persuaded southern whites to vote republican as well as turn southern democratic canadites to run republican. it was continued with reagan with an political strategist named , Lee Atwater, who admitted ON TAPE that their objective was to target black people through "forced-bussing" and "states rights" which leads to telling southerners about cutting taxes, which are economic things yet the byproduct of them is "blacks get hurt worse than whites"

we have a criminal justice System that treats you better if you're rich and guilty than if you're poor and innocent. bail funds are too expensive.

the system is not run by judges and juries. if everyone requested to go to trial, THE WHOLE SYSTEM WOULD SHUT DOWN. forced to settle for lesser sentences so as not to risk trial. 97% of people locked up have plea bargained and never seen trial. people pleading guilty to crimes they didn't commit just because the thought of going to jail for what the mandatory minimums is so excruciating. if they don't take the plea bargain, they can be convicted and punished for that even harder, and must stay in prison, forced to cope, while waiting to plead innocent in their trial. the prison system is DESIGNED to BREAK you in 30 days.

black panthers were never that big

they could've never taken down the biggest military complex the world has never seen... yet they were terrorists. black leaders who stood against the system were assassinated, jailed and DISCREDITED. angela davis was geared as an example of how scary the black intellect is.

the Birth of a nation is one of the first films in american history and romanticized the KKK as well as implemented the savage complex around black men/people

this in turn resulted in a spike of KKK popularity/membership and pushed the narrative that black people were less than human

there is a clause in the 13 amendment that allows slavery so long as the black person is incarcerated

this is when prison systems truly began, so that the southern economy crippled by the civil war, could use free labor of 4 million "new" citizens no longer defined as slaves

this kkk presence between reconstruction and WW2 is responsible for unprecedented amounts of lynchings and the relocation of black people from the south to major cites

this move was not the result of black people looking for economic opportunity but rather the result of extreme terror (they left the south BECAUSE of the TERRORISM of the KKK)

law and order was a popularized term that largely referent to gaining back control after the backleashes of the civil rights movements
