Red Marking

Indicates no parking zones

Double solid white lines

Seperate two lanes of traffic going in the same direction. Used to designate HOV lanes or expressways. Don't cross these lines.

A shared lane marking

or sharrow, consists of a bicycle symbol with a double chevron arrow above it and is used on travel lanes too narrow for motor vehicles and bicycles to share side-by-side. Sharrows clarify where bicyclists are encouraged to ride in the lane and remind drivers to expect bicyclists on the road.

If you have a transpondor approuch a toll plaza and look for the purple E Z PASS follow sign. If not, go to the cash only lanes.

Yield Line

Line of triangles across a roadway to show a point where you must yield or stop. Often used at a rounabout.

Solid white line

Show turning lanes and discourage lane changes near intersections, interchange/on and off ramps, and at other locations where lane changes may be dangerous. Solid white lines also mark right edge of pavement. Arrows used with white lines indication which turn may be made from the lane. Stop lines, crosswalks, and parking spaces are marked by white lines.

How to approuch toll plaza

Some vehicles have high speed lanes reserved for vehicles with E Z PASS transpondrs, do not enter unless you have. If you do, do not stop, cameras will capture vehicle plate and you will be billed.

Yellow curb

Stop only long enough to load or unload. Stay with your car.

White curb

Stop only long enough to pick up or drop off passengers

Whit lane arrows are curved or straight

You can turn in the direction of the arrow, if there's an only you can only go that way

Bicycle lane

indicated by a solid or dashed white line or green pavement marking, and a bicylist symbol. Drivers should not drive in this lane excpet when turning left or right, before turning check mirrors for bicyclists and yield to them in the lane.

mark the center of the road and separate traffic traveling in two different directions. Passing is not allowed in either direction. You may not cross the lines unless you are making a left turn.

Dotted white lines

show lane assignment in intersections and interchanges where there might otherwise be a tendency to drift out of a line or an area of intended use. Often guide two turning lanes through an intersection. Also denote opening of a turning lane at an intersection and entracne/ exit lanes at interchanges

If HOV lanes are separated by a barrier...

they are reversable, certain times of the day traffic flows one way. During other times of the day traffic flows the opposite. Diamond shape also indicates bus lane.

Yellow Center Line

two way traffic, flowing in opposite directions

Pavement markings

warn drivers and regulate traffic, may be used alone or in combinations

If the center lane is marked by a single broken yellow line on both sides

Drivers traveling in either direction may use the center lane for passing

If both sides of the center lane are marked by a solid yellow line and a broken yellow line

Drivers traveling in either direction may use the lane for making left turns. However they may not travel further then 150 ft in this lane

HOV

High Occupancy Vehicle lanes are marked on highways by a diamond shape in the center of the lane. HOV lanes may also be special lanes separated by a barrier or solid double white lines.
