What type of irony is this? In a scary movie, the character goes into a house they think is empty, but the audience knows the killer is in the house.

Situational Irony

Involves a situation in which actions have an effect that is opposite from what was intended, so the outcome is contrary to what was expected. This is the most often referenced type of irony.

Situational Irony because you would not expect that an agency that works to keep things clean would have a rodent infestation.

Verbal Irony because mud is not clear, and the speaker is saying the opposite of what he means.

What type of irony is this? Mother: "I see you ironed your shirt." Son: "But, I just dug it out of the bottom of the hamper."

Verbal Irony because the mother is being ironic in that she is pointing out that the boy's shirt is terribly wrinkled. She is being sarcastic in order to make her point.
