Where service mast is used for the support of service drop conductors, it shall be of adequate strength or be supported by braces or guys to withstand the strain imposed by the service drop. Only power service drop conductors shall be permitted to be attached to a service mast

Damp and Wet locations (panelboard)

a 1/4 inch air space required behind surface-mounted metal panel in a damp or wet locations

HVAC outlet

a 125 volt, single phase, 15 amp or 20 amp receptacle outlet shall be installed at an accessible location for the servicing of heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment. The receptacle shall be located on the same level and within 25 feet of the equipment

Load-side grounded conductor neutral

a grounded conductor shall not be connected to normally noncurrent-carrying metal parts of equipment, to equipment grounding conductors, or be reconnected to ground on the load side of the service disconnecting means. (subpanel neutrals NOT bonded to enclosure and grounds)

Basement and garages

at least on receptacle shall be installed in each basement and in each attached garage and in each detached garage or accessory building that is provided with electrical power.

Island/peninsular countertop spaces

at least one receptacle outlet shall be installed at each island/peninsular countertop space with a long dimension of 24 inches or greater and short dimension of 12 inches or greater.

Interior metal water pipping installation (bond)

bond around removable equipment. Continuity of grounding path or the bonding connection to interior pipping shall not rely on water meters, filtering devices and similar equipment.

Grounded conductor terminations

each grounded conductor shall terminate within the panel board on an individual terminal that is not also used for another conductor (each neutral requires individual terminal) except: grounded conductors of circuits with parallel conductors shall be permitted to terminate on a single terminal where the terminal is identified for connection of more than one conductor

Multiwire circuits

each multiwire branch circuit shall be provided with a means that will simultaneously disconnect all ungrounded conductors at the point where the branch originates. (handle tie or single handle)

All equipment approval

electrical materials, components and equipment requires approval from AHJ (local authority)

Clearances on buildings

open conductors and multi-conductors cables without an overall outer jacket shall have a clearance of a minimum of 3 feet from the sides of doors, porches, decks, stairs, ladders, fire escapes and balconies and from the sides and bottom of windows that open. 1. maintain clearance above decks and stairs for 3 feet past edge 2. Maintain required clearance for 3 feet past roof edge Exception: clearance not required between window and service entrance for enclosed cable or conductors in raceway

Vertical Clearances from grade

overhead conductors shall have the following minimum clearances from final grade: 1. 10 feet minimum to bottom of drip loop 2. 10 feet minimum above area accessible only to pedestrians 3. 12 feet above residential property and driveways 4. 18 feet above public streets, alleys, or truck parking areas.

Minimum branch circuit for ranges

ranges with a rating of 8.75kVA or more shall be supplied by a branch circuit having a minimum rating of 40 amps

Warning ribbon

underground service conductors that are NOT encased in concrete and that are buried 18 inches or more below grade shall have their locations identified by a warning ribbon that is placed in the trench not less than 12 inches above the underground installation

15 amp and 20 amp (wet locations)

where installed in a wet location, 15 amp and 20 amp, 125 volt and 250 volt receptacles shall have an enclosure that is weatherproof whether or not the attachment plug cap is inserted. non locking receptacles shall be listed weather-resistant type. (bubble cover required if unattended)

Boxes at fan outlets

1. outlet boxes and outlet box systems used as the sole support of ceiling suspended fans shall be marked as suitable for this purpose and shall support ceiling suspended fans that weigh more than 70 pounds. 2. for outlet boxes and outlet box systems designed to support ceiling suspended fans that weigh more than 35 pounds, the required marking shall include the maximum weight to be supported. 3. Fans over 70 pounds require independent support

Rod and pipe electrodes

1. rod and pipe electrodes minimum of 8 feet in length. 2. rod and pipe electrodes shall be installed/driven so that 8 feet of length is in contact with the soil. The upper end of the electrodes shall be flush with or below ground level .

Outdoor outlets

at least one receptacle outlet that is accessible at grade level and located not more than 6 feet 6 inches above grade, shall be installed outdoors at the front and back of each dwelling unit having direct access to grade. Balconies, decks and porches that are accessible from inside of the dwelling unit shall have at least one receptacle outlet installed within the perimeter of the balcony, deck, or porch. The receptacle shall be located not more that 6 feet 6 inches above.

Protection of Equipment

equipment not identified for outdoor use and equipment identified only for indoor use shall be protected against damage from the weather during construction.

Branch Circuits serving multiple loads

general purpose branch circuits shall supply outlets, appliances, equipment or receptacle outlets, and combinations of such. Multi-outlet branch circuits serving lighting or receptacles shall be limited to a maximum branch-circuit rating of 20 amps.

Location of Grounding electrode

grounding electrode conductor shall be connected to the grounded service conductor at any accessible point from the load end of the service drop. A grounding connection shall not be made to any grounded circuit conductor on the load side of the service disconnecting means. Exception: separate building with no parallel metal path between buildings.

Electric baseboard heaters

permanently installed electric baseboard heaters equipped with factory installed receptacle outlets, or outlets provided as a separate assembly by the manufacturer shall be permitted as the required outlet or outlets for the wall space utilized by such permanently installed heaters. Such receptacle outlets shall not be connected to the heater circuits. baseboard heaters come in two varaties 120 volt and 240 volt. They should not be placed under outlets where cords will drape over the baseboard heater and receptacles in baseboard heaters not on same circuit
